🌧 Franklin County Emergency Management is pleased to announce the installation of new Virginia Department of Emergency Management Flood Intel sensors at three locations across Franklin County:

âś… Blackwater River at Callaway Road
âś… Maggodee Creek at Naff Road
âś… Story Creek at Waidsboro Road

📏 These sensors will provide real-time water level monitoring to support flood awareness, emergency response, and public safety throughout our community. The sensors are currently being calibrated and will soon be available for public viewing through the National Weather Service website.

🔎 This proactive investment in flood monitoring and modeling will help improve preparedness, strengthen emergency response efforts, and provide more accurate and timely information during severe weather events affecting Franklin County residents and travelers.

The project was completed at no cost to Franklin County through a collaborative partnership between the Virginia Department of Emergency Management Flood Intel Division, the National Weather Service, and Franklin County Emergency Management.

This week is Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Tornadoes can form quickly, sometimes with little warning. Knowing where to go ahead of time can save valuable seconds.

The safest place during a tornado is a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Mobile homes and vehicles are not safe shelters.

Now is also a good time to prepare an emergency kit with essentials like water, flashlights, batteries, medications, and important documents.

Stay informed by monitoring weather alerts and having multiple ways to receive warnings.

Preparedness helps keep our community safe here in Franklin County.
