LABOR DAY WEEKEND IS HERE, FRANKLIN COUNTY! ๐Ÿšค๐Ÿ๏ธ

Itโ€™s one of the last big weekends of summerโ€”and thereโ€™s a LOT happening across Franklin County, from time on the lake and busy roadways to the Franklin County Agricultural Fair.

Sheriff Bill Overton and the Franklin County Office of the Sheriff want everyone to enjoy the weekend, make some great memories and, most importantly, get home safely.

End the summer with good memoriesโ€”not a bad decision.

๐Ÿšซ Never operate a vehicle OR boat impaired. Have a sober driver and a plan before the fun begins.

๐Ÿ’บ๐Ÿฆบ Buckle up on the road. Wear a life jacket on the water.

๐Ÿš— Slow down in congested areas. With holiday traffic and Fair traffic, expect more vehicles on the roads and give yourself extra time.

๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿšฒ๐Ÿšถ Give motorcycles, bicycles and pedestrians room. Look twice and share the road.

๐Ÿšค Getting on the water? Stay alert, boat responsibly and remember that safe boating is just as important as safe driving.

๐ŸŽก Heading to the Franklin County Agricultural Fair? Watch for increased traffic and pedestrians around the fairgrounds, keep children close in crowded areas, and lock your vehicle with valuables out of sight.

And remember: if you see an emergency or dangerous situation, call 911.

๐Ÿ“ž Franklin County Office of the Sheriff: (540) 483-3000
๐Ÿ“ž Non-Emergency Dispatch: (540) 483-3000

Have fun. Look out for one another. Make smart choices.

๐Ÿš” LETโ€™S KEEP MOVING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.

Virginia is making progress, but one bad decision can still have lasting consequences.

Preliminary Januaryโ€“June 2025 data shows that alcohol-related deaths were down 32% in Virginia. Thatโ€™s progress worth continuing.

The Franklin County Office of the Sheriff and Sheriff Bill Overton encourage everyone to help keep that number moving in the right direction.

Donโ€™t let a DUI damage your friendships, career, relationshipsโ€”or your future. If drinking is part of your plans, make the decision before the first drink:

Plan a sober ride instead.

๐ŸŽก๐Ÿ„ THE FRANKLIN COUNTY FAIR OPENS TODAY! ๐ŸŒฝ๐ŸŽ

Itโ€™s Fair time! The Franklin County Agricultural Fair is officially underway September 2โ€“5 at Franklin County Recreation Park, and Sheriff Bill Overton and the Franklin County Office of the Sheriff want everyone to have a funโ€”and safeโ€”time at the Fair!

As you head out, remember that the Fair means increased traffic, more pedestrians and busier parking areas. A few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe:

๐Ÿš— EXPECT INCREASED TRAFFIC near the fairgrounds. Give yourself extra time and be patient.

๐Ÿšถ SLOW DOWN & WATCH FOR PEDESTRIANS, especially near entrances and parking areas.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง KEEP CHILDREN CLOSE in crowded areas. Consider choosing a family meeting spot in case anyone gets separated.

๐Ÿ”’ LOCK YOUR VEHICLE & KEEP VALUABLES OUT OF SIGHT.

โš ๏ธ ARE YOU READY, FRANKLIN COUNTY?

September is National Preparedness Month, and Sheriff Bill Overton and the Franklin County Office of the Sheriff are encouraging every family to take a few simple steps now that can make a BIG difference when an emergency happens.

Because emergencies donโ€™t make appointments. Severe weather, flooding, fires, tornadoes, health emergencies and power outages can happen with little or no warning.

Preparedness starts BEFORE the emergency.

โœ… MAKE A PLAN โ€” Know where your family will go, how youโ€™ll communicate and what youโ€™ll do if you become separated.

๐ŸŽ’ BUILD AN EMERGENCY KIT โ€” Include water, nonperishable food, medications, first-aid supplies, flashlights, batteries, chargers and other essentials your household may need.

๐Ÿ“ฑ KNOW YOUR RISKS โ€” Understand the types of emergencies that can affect Franklin County and have a plan for each.

๐Ÿ“ข STAY INFORMED โ€” Make sure you have a reliable way to receive emergency and severe weather alerts, especially when conditions can change quickly.

๐Ÿค HELP OTHERS โ€” Check on family members, neighbors, older adults and others who may need extra assistance during an emergency.

Throughout National Preparedness Month, weโ€™ll be sharing information to help Franklin County residents become better prepared before an emergency happens.

READY TODAY. SAFER TOMORROW.

Together, we can help make Franklin County stronger and better prepared.

๐Ÿš” WHATโ€™S THE DAMAGE?

The Franklin County Office of the Sheriff and Sheriff Bill Overton are proud to support and โ€™s โ€œWhatโ€™s the Damage?โ€ initiative to reduce drunk driving.

A DUI can cost far more than money. It can affect your career, relationships, reputation and future. The safest choice is the one you make before the night even begins:

Plan ahead. Choose a sober ride. Never drive impaired.
