🌟 Intern Spotlight: Braylie Phillips

Meet Braylie Phillips, one of this year's Interns for Impact! Braylie completed her internship with Area L Area Health Education Center (Area L AHEC), where she spent the summer immersed in research and exploring public health topics she'd never encountered before.

"Diving into the Center's CPD Evaluations was the highlight of my internship. The research pushed me into topics I'd never encountered before, and genomics quickly became my favorite."

Thank you, Braylie, for your hard work this summer!

We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of Nancy Harrison, MSN, RNC who was an asset to the Area L AHEC team for many years. Our President/CEO Dr. Debby Futrell reflects on their time together:

"Nancy began working with Area L AHEC 9/9/1992 and retired in 7/6/2005. She was the associate director of nursing (geriatric) education. Nancy and I started working together when I was a clinical pharmacist with Rural Health Group (RHG). We coordinated an interdisciplinary team that included health professionals from the UNC Program on Aging and RHG who met monthly in Jackson, NC to see geriatric patients with complicated medical conditions. The team would spend an entire day seeing a patient and family members identified by a medical provider on a home visit and in the nursing home. Once I joined the Area L AHEC staff, she and I worked on many grants/projects focused on geriatrics."
