Dr. Joni repairing a keel bone exposure today. Please consider supporting this Bald Eagles care 🦅.

On today's episode of Going Crazy With Wild at Heart-
Dr. Joni at Rocky Point Animal Hospital saves the day! This adult Bald Eagle 🦅 was hit by a car yesterday. He was degloved and his keel bone was exposed. Without Dr. Joni's quick intervention, his bone would have died and he would not have survived. Now, he has a chance to heal and hopefully we can get him home soon. If you would like to help with the cost of his surgery you can donate below.

Cape Fear Raptor Center has had the pleasure of serving Coastal North Carolina’s citizens in the education of raptors and their ecosystem since 2012. The effects of COVID 19 were drastically felt by Cape Fear Raptor Center’s all-volunteer run organization, with significant decreases in both volunteer numbers and donations. Because of this and the ability of other organizations in southeastern North Carolina to provide this educational service, the raptor ambassadors permitted by Cape Fear Raptor Center will be transferred to other area raptor educators holding permits with USFWS.
Cape Fear Raptor Center’s Rehabilitation Department will continue to help injured raptors in the area through surgical and medical support of other USFWS permitted raptor rehabilitators throughout the East. Dr. Joni Shimp continues to provide services for Cape Fear Raptor Center’s Rehabilitation Department through Rocky Point Animal Hospital’s facility.

Our Story

At CFRC, we are focused on providing medical, surgical, and rehabilitative pre-release services to birds of prey with the highest level of patient care. The center was founded by Dr. Joni Shimp, DVM, a licensed falconers and active conservationist. Cape Fear Raptor Center is a NC Non-Profit Corporation with 501(c)3 status. CFRC has grown in leaps and bounds over the last 5 years and we are very excited to be partnering with the Town of Belville to bring Southeastern NC a year round, family centered, educational facility where you will be able to see our magnificent birds up close and personal. With a 3 year goal, we plan on building our Center, increasing our community involvement in helping teach people the importance of raptors in our local ecosystem. In 2017, our educational ambassadors have seen the faces of over 35,000 adults and kids collectively during educational programs and events. Look around our website and if you have any comments or questions, please feel free to contact us. We hope to see you again! Check back soon...There’s much more to come!
