There will be a memorial service for Clyde Thompson on Saturday, march 28th at the RWS Community Building at 1 pm.

After a long struggle with complications from surgery, Clyde Thompson was called to heaven Wednesday. He loved working at the pier and as Deputy Fire Chief at the Chicamacomico Banks Fire Department. Please pray for his wife Laura. He was a joy to be around and he never let his medical issue keep him down. Rest in Peace Clyde - we love you!

Due to deteriorating conditions and poor visibility, we are CLOSING NC12 between the Marc Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe at 6 p.m. in order to protect the safety of motorists and our road crews.

8/23/25 @ 8:55 PM: Tomorrow is not shaping up to be a good beach day 🌧, but just in case you venture to the beach please be aware that we will have a HIGH threat of rip currents for the OBX down to Cape Lookout as strong long period swell persists.

Thank you NCDOT NC 12 for digging out our emergency accesses after Erin. These accesses are vital for emergency responses on the beach, and allow us to reach you faster in emergencies!

We have lost a ton of beach. Pictures taken behind Cape Hatteras KOA at low tide…..

We will resume normal patrols tomorrow!
