Info for Duckdog Cottage renters (with many thanks to the lovely folks at Azaleadog Cottage)

Places to eat:
In Rodanthe we have Atlantic Cafe, just south on Route 12, right side. Great coffee, and pretty much anything on the breakfast menu. Lunch (spicy fish burger) and dinner are pretty good too. Top Dog, south on 12, left side. Jamaican Tuna Wrap is to die
for. Cajun Crab Wrap not far behind. Sting Wrays is at the corner of HWY 12 and Atlantic Drive (Pier Road). For fresh seafood, go to Austin's Seafood market. The steam, peel your own shrimp and crab for pick up and have a variety of fresh fish for the grill. Also have an assortment of fried fish baskets for pick up. The Waves Deli has excellent breakfast and lunch food as well as the best variety of beer around. Open late! A little south, is REAL. It is a kite boarding place with a nice sunset cafe (Mojo's) around back. Appetizers are good and the sunset is great. Down Under is a nice place to have dinner as well. Further south in Avon, is the Avon Cafe. If you like crab cakes, you have to stop there. Even further south, in Buxton, there is the Orange Blossom Cafe. Must try the “Apple Uglies,” but will have to get there early before they sell out. There is also an excellent frozen custard shop (Eddy's) with mini golf. If you are North of Nags Head, there is Tortuga's Lie , which is excellent. Things to Do:
Our house has an unlimited Pier Pass at the Rodanthe Pier (good for up to 6 guests). You just have to tell them that you are staying at Duckdog. In Rodanthe, the Chicamicomico Life Saving Station is worth a quick tour. While you are down in Buxton, head a little further south to see the Hatteras lighthouse. If you take the road past the lighthouse, you will eventually reach the point. This is where you can get really big conch shells at low tide! As you head back north, stop at the mini golf/frozen custard shop called Don't forget Uncle Eddy’s for amazing custard. If you head north toward Oregon Inlet:
Pea Island Sanctuary--great birding
Oregon Inlet Fishing Center--offshore boats coming in around 3-4pm with tuna, wahoo, dolphin, etc. Bodie Island Light--also great birding
In Nags Head, etc. there is some shopping (blah). Wright Bros. Memorial museum is pretty cool. Jockey's Ridge is where the biggest dunes on the east coast reside. Manteo has a great aquarium and the Elizabethan gardens. For an evening activity and theatre, the Lost Colony is a play about the local history. Downtown has a nice waterfront shopping and is all in walking distance. If you'd like to rent kayaks or get a taste of the sound, there is a nice sound access area just south of Salvo with small beaches. If you are really adventurous or would like a day trip, a visit to Okracoke is cool. You'll have to take the ferry to get there. Cute downtown and good restaurants as well as wild horses and pirates. Rodanthe Surf shop (next to Liberty gas) has cool local merchandise (shirts, etc.). Jason (the owner) is always good for surf lessons. Michael Halminski, a superb local photographer and naturalist, is located in Waves, on the right heading south. Pea Island Art is in Salvo. Another place with cool local art. Rodanthe Thrift Shop

Island convenience (Liberty Gas station in Rodanthe) has most of what you will need. North Beach Campground--as above

There is a Lion King in Avon, if you decide to get other stuff. Harris Teeter is a more upscale supermarket, located in Nags Head area. Liquor stores (Labeled ABC, for Alcohol Beverage Control) are in Buxton, Manteo or Nags Head. The house:
