***UPDATE - Thanks to several tips from the community and sleuth work by officers, subjects have been identified and ticketed.

The Rogers City Police Dept is investigating another dumping complaint at the transfer station. 2 unknown suspects dumped mattresses by the metal bin. If you recognize these individuals please message us on Facebook or contact the police dept at City Hall. Usually we are able to quickly locate and cite individuals for trash dumping but they seem to have purposely made it difficult to read their license plate.

We are also seeking information reference numerous black garbage bags filled with insulation dumped behind the recycling dumpsters.

Animal Cruelty Arrest

On 7/14/2026 at approximately 1:40PM Rogers City Police Officers received a report of a man punching and dragging his dog out of his vehicle at Harbor View Lookout on Calcite Rd. The 911 caller reported the man had left the dog and fled the scene. While the caller was tending to the dog the suspect returned and assaulted the caller while taking the dog back and driving away. Officers quickly located the suspect and served a search warrant on his S Lake St residence. The suspect, a 69-year-old male from Rogers City, was taken into custody on multiple charges. The dog was also taken into protective custody and immediately taken to a veterinarian for injuries. The suspect was lodged in the Presque Isle County Jail on charges of 2 counts Animals- Abandoning/Cruelty to one animal and 1 count of Assault and Battery. More charges are possible as the case is reviewed.

The Rogers City Police Dept was assisted by the Presque Isle County Sheriffs Dept, Huron Veterinary Clinic, and the Elk County Animal Shelter.
