Distinguished Sons of Mazra’a: Brigadier General David Abraham Younan
The late Brigadier General David Abraham Younan, a son of Tel-Rumman Tahtani (Mazra’a), was a well-known and highly respected Assyrian figure among our people in Syria. He was born in 1933 in the village of Tel-Rumman Tahtani (Mazra’a), in Syria’s Hasakah Governorate, and grew up and received his education in the city of Hasakah.
He completed his secondary education with distinction, ranking third in the entire governorate. Although he wished to study medicine, difficult financial circumstances prevented him from attending university, so he chose instead to enroll in the Syrian Military Academy.
After four years of study and training, he graduated with the rank of Second Lieutenant and joined units of the Syrian Army, beginning a distinguished military career marked by service and responsibility. He rose through the ranks until becoming a Captain, and during this period he served as head of the Recruitment Branch in the city of Qamishli.
He then attended the Armament College in Aleppo and was sent on two training missions, one to Czechoslovakia and another to Egypt, where he specialized in military armament.
Upon returning to Syria, he was appointed commander of the armament depots in Palmyra (Tadmur). He continued to advance through the ranks and various positions until becoming Commander of the Palmyra Area, while also overseeing the armament depots. He additionally served as head of Syria’s Armament Inspection Committee for ten years.
Brigadier General David Younan completed his military service with integrity and dedication. Following his retirement, he returned to the city of Hasakah, where he spent his final years until he passed into the presence of the Lord in 2003.
He left behind an honorable reputation and a distinguished legacy, as well as a national and military career characterized by discipline, honesty, and dedicated service. His name remained well known among our people as one of the most prominent and respected Mazarnaye in Syria.
أبناء المزرعة البارزون: العميد دافيد أبراهام يونان
كان العميد الراحل دافيد أبراهام يونان، أحد أبناء تلّ رمان تحتاني (المزرعة)، شخصية آشورية معروفة ومحترمة بين أبناء شعبنا في سوريا، ومن الشخصيات البارزة من أبناء المزرعة.
وُلد عام 1933 في قرية تلّ رمان تحتاني (المزرعة)، بمحافظة الحسكة في سوريا، ونشأ وتلقى تعليمه في مدينة الحسكة. أنهى دراسته الثانوية متفوقًا، إذ أحرز المرتبة الثالثة على مستوى المحافظة. وعلى الرغم من رغبته في دراسة الطب، حالت ظروفه الاقتصادية الصعبة دون التحاقه بالجامعة، فاختار الانتساب إلى الكلية الحربية السورية.
بعد أربع سنوات من الدراسة والتدريب، تخرّج برتبة ملازم والتحق بقطعات الجيش السوري، لتبدأ مسيرة عسكرية حافلة بالعطاء والمسؤولية. تدرّج في الرتب حتى أصبح نقيبًا، وتولى في تلك المرحلة رئاسة شعبة التجنيد في مدينة القامشلي.
ثم التحق بكلية التسليح في مدينة حلب، وأُوفد في بعثتين تدريبيتين إلى كل من تشيكوسلوفاكيا ومصر، حيث تخصص في مجال التسليح العسكري.
عقب عودته إلى سوريا، عُيّن قائدًا لمستودعات التسليح في مدينة تدمر، وواصل تدرجه في الرتب والمناصب حتى أصبح قائدًا لموقع تدمر، إلى جانب قيادته لمستودعات التسليح. كما تولّى رئاسة لجنة التفتيش التسليحي في سوريا مدة عشر سنوات.
أنهى العميد دافيد يونان خدمته العسكرية بكل نزاهة وإخلاص، وعاد بعد تقاعده إلى مدينة الحسكة، التي قضى فيها سنواته الأخيرة، إلى أن انتقل إلى جوار الرب عام 2003.
رحل العميد دافيد يونان تاركًا وراءه سيرةً طيبة وذكرى مشرّفة، ومسيرةً وطنية وعسكرية حافلة بالانضباط والصدق والعطاء. وبقي اسمه حاضرًا بين أبناء شعبنا كواحد من أشهر وأحترم أبناء المزرعة في سوريا، ورمزًا من رموز أبناء قريتنا الذين تركوا بصمة مشرّفة في تاريخ شعبنا.
