Today at the I-94 West Chamber of Commerce we were able to honor one of our own Assistant Chief/ Fire Marshal Jason Albers for his leadership and efforts regarding an out of hospital cardiac arrest.

The award nomination read:

In the summer of 2024, Assistant Chief /Fire Marshal Jason Albers of the Rogers Fire Department led a free Hands-Only CPR and AED training for residents at the Prairie Club in the Bellwether Development in Corcoran. Through this training, participants learned how to recognize the signs of sudden cardiac arrest and, more importantly, how to take immediate lifesaving action while waiting for emergency responders.

What began as a proactive community education effort soon proved to be life-saving.

In the summer of 2025, a resident in the same community suddenly collapsed from a cardiac event. Because of the training they had received from Fire Marshal Albers, nearby residents quickly recognized the emergency and took decisive action. Without hesitation, they began performing Hands-Only CPR and quickly retrieved and applied the on-site AED while awaiting emergency services. Their rapid response sustained the victim until first responders arrived—among them Fire Marshal Albers himself.

Because of their courage and the knowledge they gained through this training, a neighbor is alive today.

When asked about the experience afterward, the residents shared that they were surprised by how quickly the training came back to them in such a high-stress situation. The confidence they gained during Fire Marshal Albers’ instruction enabled them to act without hesitation, including properly deploying the AED.

This event is a powerful example of the lasting impact of Fire Marshal Albers’ dedication to community risk reduction. His commitment goes far beyond responding to emergencies—he works tirelessly to ensure that community members are prepared to respond before first responders even arrive.

Through his leadership, residents were not only trained—they were empowered to save a life.

It is rare to see such a direct and measurable outcome from community risk reduction efforts. Thanks to Fire Marshal Albers’ passion for public safety, his commitment to education, and his belief that preparedness saves lives, a tragedy was prevented and a life was saved.

As Smoky the Bear would remind you, “Only you can prevent wildfires.”

Today we were dispatched to a grass fire on I-94. Although we are not in a red flag warning we are in Very High Fire risk and with the winds today we ask everyone to be extremely careful.

We believes today’s fire was caused by discarded smoking materials, please ensure you dispose of ci******es safely. Thankfully quick response and action from our crews stopped this fire from spreading any further.

This video from Bloomington shows just how important working smoke alarms are in your home. Did you know working smoke alarms increase your chance of survival by about 50% in a house fire? Smoke alarms should be tested monthly, replaced at least every 10 years, and placed in every bedroom and at least one per level in common areas at a minimum.

This video does an excellent job also showing how fast fires develop and spread with today’s modern furnishings and construction materials, an important reminder and exactly why we recommend to
