🚑👶 HAWKINS COUNTY EMS – CHILD PASSENGER SAFETY MONTH 👶🚑

September is Child Passenger Safety Month, and Child Passenger Safety Week is September 20–26!

Hawkins County EMS is proud to recognize this important month through our Child Safety Unit and Safety Seat Express program. Throughout September, our certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be attending events across the region to help parents and caregivers make sure their children are riding as safely as possible.

📅 SEPTEMBER SAFETY SEAT EXPRESS SCHEDULE

🚑 September 3 & 4 | 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM
📍 Northeast Tennessee Emergency Medical Conference – Holiday Inn Conference Center in Johnson City, TN
Our Safety Seat Express will be on display during the conference. We will have a certified technician available, so if you’re in the area and would like to have your child’s car seat checked, stop by and see us!

💜 September 19 | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
📍 Recovery of Rogersville Event
📌 106 Blevins Rd., Rogersville, TN
We will be conducting a Child Safety Seat Checkpoint during the event. Bring your child and their safety seat, and our certified technicians will be available to check the installation and answer your questions.

🚓 September 22 | 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
📍 Grainger County Sheriff’s Office
Join Hawkins County EMS, the Grainger County Sheriff’s Department, and the Tennessee Highway Patrol for a Child Safety Seat Checkpoint.

❤️ September 23 | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
📍 Rogersville Walmart
This will be a special community safety event featuring our Safety Seat Express, Overdose Awareness Unit, and Community CPR education. Stop by to have your child’s safety seat checked and learn more about the other lifesaving programs available in our community.

🍼 September 25 | 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
📍 Hawkins County Baby Shower Event
Our certified technicians will be conducting a Child Safety Seat Checkpoint and providing education for parents and caregivers.

🍂 September 26 | 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM
📍 Mount Carmel Fall Festival
The Safety Seat Express will be on display! Come by, meet our team, see the unit, and learn more about keeping our youngest passengers safe.

You don’t have to wait for a checkpoint! Parents, grandparents, and caregivers can contact Hawkins County EMS or the Hawkins County 911 Office at any time to schedule a child safety seat check.

Our goal isn’t just to check a car seat — it’s to help parents and caregivers understand how to properly install and use their child’s seat every time they travel.

Speeding is a year-round issue that can’t be addressed enough. It wastes more gas, lowers vehicle control, reduces the effectiveness of vehicle safety features like seat belts, and puts everyone on the road in danger. There are no winners when it comes to speeding.

In 2025, speeding was the cause of 5,943 crashes in Tennessee.

Our Child Passenger Safety Technicians will be available to:

Kids are less predictable, more impulsive, and may forget to look both ways before crossing the street. Younger children also move more slowly, so they need more time to cross the street. Be especially cautious and alert for children on residential streets, near parks and playgrounds, and in school zones.

A jam-packed schedule can lead to dangerous drowsiness, no matter a driver’s age or experience level. For new drivers, maintaining full alertness and attentiveness is crucial for developing into a capable driver.
