Gold Hill Irrigation District

Gold Hill Irrigation District Informational source about water delivery to patrons of the Gold Hill and Rogue River area.

To all:

Received a notice from Talent Irrigation District that are to shut down the first week of September, not in August. What was reported to GHID was incorrect. Our apologies to Talent Irrigation District and their patrons for any anxiety and worry that our post has caused.

NOTICE: EMERGENCY SITUATION

Be aware, the lack of water intake from the river is not improving. It is getting worse daily. Less water is being released from Lost Creek Dam into the river which decreases the amount of water we can receive. Zone 3 (Foots Creek to water return to the river in Rogue River) has not received water for 5 turns. They have been bone dry.

At the GHID Board meeting last night, it was decided that a letter will be sent to all the Patrons as official notification that Zones 1 and 2 (the Diversion Dam to Foots Creek including those given permission to water from those zones) shut down from receiving water for 1 week to allow Zone 3 to receive their share of the water.

Medford Irrigation District closed for the season on August 3rd. Talent Irrigation District will shut down on August 10th. Rogue River Valley has one week's water left.

We will keep you updated as to any changes in our situation.

FYI: I have posted this twice and it has disappeared in the Ethernet. GHID is limited to taking 17.25 cfs from the river. Last week, the Watermaster brought gauges out to measure what we are taking. Due to the limited water release from Lost Creek Lake into the river, the flow measured 8.1 cfs. Yesterday, the river dropped another foot. Bob is removing Patron's dams, locking headgates, fixing leaks and 3 afternoons cleaning moss and grasses from the headgate manually to push more water to the end. We are in a severe drought. We have heard that Medford, Talent and Rogue River Irrigation Districts possibly have enough water to last them for two more weeks. They pull water from the other lakes. Grant Pass and Gold Hill draw from the river. We are asking for your understanding that GHID is doing what can be done to get water to all of you. Traditionally, extra water is released mid August for the fish run. Hope that they do this or think positive for rain.

Water is down to Rock Point. Had to delay bringing it forward due to spillway vandalism repair (pulled sealed boards replaced) and emergency excavation work at three places before water could continue. On its way passed Brothertons.

Bob is walking it down solo for now.

Water is on the way to Galls Creek. Lots of debris due to yesterday's storm. Tree branches to trees in canal. Will let you know next step when Bob reaches each daily goal.

FYI: At the Board meeting last night, it was decided to start walking the water down on Wednesday, April 8th, first thing in the morning. It will take about 4-5 days to reach the end of the canal. Debris has to be removed while the water starts flowing in your area.

When there are more specifics as to the area and where the water will be each day, it will be noted here. We are fluctuating between really cool days and projected 80 degree weather.

Will let you know what is happening
