This May, the City of Rohnert Park proudly proclaimed Affordable Housing Month — and at the May 26 City Council meeting, we got to hear firsthand about the real difference affordable homeownership is making right here in our community. Kaitlyn Garfield of the Housing Land Trust of the North Bay shared how their program has helped teachers, firefighters, nurses, bus drivers, and so many others find a place to call home in Rohnert Park. With 36 permanently affordable homes already in our community and families recently moving into new homes at SOMO Village, this work is happening right now, right here. Affordable housing is not just a policy — it is a neighbor, a coworker, a family putting down roots in the city they love. 🏠💙

On May 26, the Rohnert Park City Council took a moment to honor one of their own - and it was well deserved. Mayor Emily Sanborn presented a formal proclamation celebrating Aaron Johnson on the occasion of his retirement, recognizing a career built on dedication, professionalism, and genuine care for this community. Beyond his work with the City, Aaron has given his time and heart to causes that matter, including his ongoing involvement with Special Olympics, where he has helped create opportunities and inspire athletes of all abilities. Rohnert Park is better because of the years Aaron gave to it, and the community continues to be fortunate to have his heart in it. We wish him all the best in this well-earned next chapter. 🏅🤝

El 26 de mayo, el Concejo Municipal de Rohnert Park tomó un momento para honrar a uno de los suyos - y fue muy merecido. This chat is one of a series we are hosting this summer to hear directly from YOU about your community priorities. More chats are coming up so keep an eye out!
