Charcoal sketch of William Schlensig (Wilhelm Schlenzig) and his wife Elizabeth. William emigrated to the USA from Gerstenburg in the Kingdom of Saxony which is near present day Leipzig, Germany. William and Elizabeth are the parents of William Daniel Schlensig and grandparents of Frank Schlensig (1892-1971) who donated the land to Pocahontas County, Iowa that became the Schlensig Wildlife Area.

William and Elizabeth Schlensig were the parents of William Daniel Schlensig who donated the land to Pocahontas County that became the Schlensig Wildlife Area. William and Elizabeth are buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Dunlap, Iowa.

The Pocahontas County Conservation Board welcomes everyone to their parks, wildlife areas, and historical sites of Pocahontas County, Iowa. The Schlensig Wildlife Area is 256 acres of the over 2,000 acres managed by the PCCB and has been preserved in a natural state providing great opportunities for a variety of outdoor pursuits.
