Extreme heat can pose serious health risks, so it's important to take precautions with the expected high temperatures. Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe by following these simple heat safety tips:
• Close blinds and curtains during the hottest part of the day to help keep indoor spaces cooler.
• Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water throughout the day, even before you feel thirsty.
• Schedule outdoor activities for the early morning or evening. Avoid exercising outdoors during the hottest part of the day.
• Choose lighter meals. Avoid heavy, hot meals and spicy foods. Opt for fresh fruits, salads, and other light foods that provide additional hydration.
• Take frequent breaks if you must be outside. Avoid direct sunlight when possible, seek shade, or use an umbrella. Be alert for signs of heat exhaustion.
• Wear lightweight, breathable, loose-fitting clothing. Wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses can provide added protection from the sun.
