Congratulations, Tabitha Stanley!

We are excited to announce the promotion of Tabitha Stanley to Operations Assistant!

Many of you already know Tabitha. She has been a dedicated member of our 9-1-1 team for more than 23 years and has served as a supervisor within our division for several years. Throughout her career, she has played an integral role in training, serving both as a trainer and as a training supervisor. She also dedicated several years of service to the Rolla Police Negotiations Team.

Tabitha is one of the strongest call-takers in our center and has consistently demonstrated exceptional compassion, professionalism, and commitment to public service. Even after more than two decades in this profession, she continues to approach every call with the same level of care and dedication that has earned the respect of her peers and the community she serves.

A true leader, Tabitha excels at motivating and supporting her team. She leads by example, sets high standards, and is always willing to step up when needed.

While this promotion brings a host of new responsibilities, we are confident that Tabitha's experience, leadership, and dedication will make her an outstanding Operations Assistant.

Please join me in congratulating Chrissy Smith on her retirement after a highly decorated 28-year career with the Rolla Police Department!
Chrissy joined us in March of 1998 from the Dent County Sheriff’s Department, beginning her journey with the Rolla Police Department as a telecommunicator. In 2002, she was promoted to Communications Supervisor.

Three years later, Chrissy transitioned to the Patrol Division, where she continued to excel. She was promoted to Corporal in 2011 and earned the respect and admiration of her fellow officers and coworkers throughout her time there.

In 2013, Chrissy returned to her roots in Communications as a Senior Telecommunicator and was quickly promoted once again to Communications Supervisor. Even after returning to Communications, patrol officers still sought out her advice and guidance — a true testament to the respect she earned throughout the department.

In October 2023, Chrissy was promoted to Operations Assistant, a newly created position that required learning an entirely new set of skills. Unsurprisingly, she embraced the challenge and continued to shine in the role.

Chrissy remained a Rolla Police Reserve during her tenure in Communications and was promoted to Sergeant earlier this year. Chrissy also served as an advisor for the Rolla Police Department’s Junior Cadet Program, helping mentor high school students interested in careers in public safety.

Throughout her career, Chrissy received numerous commendations and awards, including the Judge Mayberry Award, MPSCC Supervisor of the Year, Meritorious Award, Grand Cordon Awards, Exceptional Duty Awards, and several letters of recognition and appreciation from both our department and outside agencies, including the U.S. Marshals Service.
On a personal note, Chrissy has served as my “right-hand woman” in her Operations Assistant role, and I truly do not know what I will do without her. She was always willing to help wherever needed and was someone I could consistently rely on for advice, support, and honest feedback. Chrissy and I have worked together in some capacity for more than 28 years , and it simply will not be the same without her.

While we will certainly miss Chrissy, she has absolutely earned the opportunity to enjoy retirement while she is still young. We wish her nothing but happiness and success in all her future adventures.

As graduation season continues, we want to make parents, students, and community members aware of the popular game commonly known as “Senior Assassins.” While many students view this as a fun tradition, we want to stress the importance of using good judgment and common sense while participating.

We have already seen incidents across the country where students were observed carrying realistic-looking fake guns, wearing dark clothing, masks, or tactical-style gear while attempting to “eliminate” other players. To an innocent bystander, this can appear to be a real threat or dangerous situation, especially when seen in neighborhoods, parking lots, parks, or around schools.

Citizens who observe suspicious behavior or someone carrying what appears to be a firearm are likely going to call 911 — and understandably so. Officers responding to these calls may not immediately know whether the weapon is fake or real.

We strongly encourage students participating in these games to:
• Avoid using realistic-looking fi****ms or replica weapons
• Avoid masks, tactical clothing, or anything that could conceal identity
• Never play on school property, private property without permission, or in public businesses
• Be mindful of how your actions may appear to others
• Use common sense and prioritize safety at all times

Parents are encouraged to have conversations with their students about making smart decisions and understanding how these situations can quickly create fear or confusion in the community.

We want everyone to enjoy graduation season safely while avoiding unnecessary panic or dangerous misunderstandings.
