The application deadline for the Senior Tax Freeze is May 31. Renewals were sent in March and have the same deadline.
To qualify, one must be 62+, have a deed for the house, not claim an exemption in another county and/or state, can prove it's your main residence with a voter ID card or current utility bill with your address and name.

Lines were consistently almost out the outside doors.
It'll only get worse the next 2 days.
Don't forget if you pay with a check, you can drop it off in one of our drop boxes (one outside and 2 inside).
We'll send a receipt after we process it.

Friday - Jan 2. Taxes are delinquent. They jump 11% from December to January. You have all month to pay the same rate in January.

We have the silver Dropbox outside for those not wanting to stand in line or after hours. It'll be checked Dec. 31 at 11pm then closed up.

URGENT!!!
State law requires us to use the post mark to determine if a tax payment is late.
Our local post offices do NOT post mark letters. They get sent to Springfield, which adds a few days on.
Do NOT put your tax payment in the local post offices after December 26. They will not have a post mark before December 31 and state law says those payments are delinquent.
There is zero interest paid on your money for 5 days (in your bank) Please don't wait until the last day to pay. You may end up paying late fees and interest.

Update: Tax bills were sent out a couple of days ago. Yes, finally. We apologize for the delay. Unfortunately the delay was out of our hands.

The bills should be sent out this week from the mailing service. The Senior Tax Freeze logistics put our software company behind in creating tax bills.
