The Boil Water Advisory that was initiated on June 16, 2026, at 9:45pm for the City of Rome public Water system has been REMOVED as of 12:30 p.m. on June 18, 2026.

Mayor Lanigan Provides Update on Boil Water Advisory
ROME, NY — On the evening of June 16, 2026, the City of Rome issued a precautionary Boil Water Advisory following a mechanical issue at the City's Water Filtration Plant.
At approximately 4:00 p.m., plant personnel identified a mechanical issue and immediately followed established operational protocols. Those procedures included identifying and isolating the source of the issue, implementing corrective actions, conducting system-wide water quality sampling, and maintaining communication with the Oneida County Health Department throughout the process.
Based on the information available at the time, the situation and preliminary sampling results did not meet the criteria requiring immediate public notification. However, after consultation with staff and health officials, Public Works Commissioner Joseph Guiliano determined that issuing a Boil Water Advisory was the prudent course of action out of an abundance of caution to protect public health and safety.
Mayor Jeffrey M. Lanigan commended the Water Filtration Plant staff for their swift and professional response.
"I want to thank our water plant operators and staff for acting quickly to identify the issue, implement corrective measures, and ensure the safety of our water system," said Mayor Lanigan. "I also want to thank our residents and businesses for their patience and understanding. We recognize that a boil water advisory can be disruptive, but protecting public health will always remain our highest priority."
Since the advisory was issued, the City has received numerous questions regarding emergency notifications and public alerts. Last night, upon issuance of the advisory, the City distributed a news release to local media outlets, including television, radio, and print organizations. Information was also posted on the City's website, social media platforms, and through the RomeIQ mobile application.
Earlier this year, the City launched RomeIQ to provide residents with emergency notifications, service updates, event information, and other important community alerts. Residents who have not yet downloaded the app are strongly encouraged to do so, as it serves as one of the City's primary platforms for receiving emergency notifications and time-sensitive information.
Residents are also encouraged to enroll in RomeIQ's SMS text alert service by texting JOIN to 315-330-8302. To sign up to receive automated voice message alerts call 315-330-8302 and press 1.
