As temperatures rise, many households rely on window air conditioning units to stay cool. Taking a few simple precautions can help keep your home safe and your unit running efficiently.
✅ Make sure your window AC unit is securely installed and properly supported.
✅ Check that the unit is level according to the manufacturer's instructions.
✅ Inspect the power cord for damage and plug the unit directly into a properly rated outlet.
✅ Never use extension cords or power strips with a window AC unit.
✅ Keep curtains, furniture, bedding, and other combustible materials away from the unit and vents.
✅ Clean or replace filters regularly to improve performance and prevent the unit from overheating.
✅ Keep the area around the outdoor portion of the unit free of debris, leaves, and other materials that can restrict airflow.
✅ If you notice unusual odors, smoke, sparks, buzzing sounds, or overheating, turn the unit off immediately and have it inspected by a qualified technician.

A few minutes of maintenance and safety checks can help prevent fires, improve efficiency, and keep your family comfortable all season long.👍

🔥 Fire Safety Matters: Window AC units work hard during hot weather. Proper installation, regular maintenance, and safe electrical practices can significantly reduce the risk of electrical fires.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Georgia Fire Academy for coming to Rome and conducting the Live Fire Instructor class. 🔥

Congratulations to the 11 personnel who earned their Live Fire Instructor certification. This training strengthens our department’s ability to provide valuable hands-on instruction and continue improving emergency response for the citizens we proudly serve.

This opportunity was made possible through the 2017 SPLOST-funded Training Improvement Project, including the Burn Building project. Investments like these continue to enhance training capabilities for our firefighters to better protect and serve our citizens.

We look forward to our continued partnership with the Georgia Fire Academy as we work together to bring exceptional training opportunities to Northwest Georgia.

Today, the Rome‑Floyd Fire Department pauses to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice protects the freedoms we cherish, and their courage continues to inspire us every day. ❤
As we gather with family, friends, and our community, we remember that Memorial Day is not just a day off- it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and respect.
To all who have served and to the families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty, we thank you. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten. ❤
Honoring the fallen. Supporting the living.

GSAR Task Force 6 quarterly structural collapse training hosted at Rome-Floyd Fire Department. Special thanks to Mark Nelson and his crew with Quality "Plus" Services Inc. for allowing us to observe the structural stabilization efforts at the Historical Floyd County Courthouse. This experience emphasizes the importance of observing structural degradation. The fact the Historic Courthouse is still standing is a testament to the engineering techniques used by our forefathers. During this training the task force team also enhanced basic stabilization of buildings and removal of rubble. The team was also tasked in the end with removing patients from a simulated parking deck collapse.
*Special thanks to Lloyds wrecker service and Woods Road Recycling for the rubble donation.
