Congratulations to 1160th Transportation Company First Sergeant Alex “Smoke” Stembridge on his retirement Sunday, 15 February 2026 after over 21 years of dedicated service in the Georgia Army National Guard.

We extend our sincere gratitude to 1SG Stembridge for his dedicated service, steady leadership, and unwavering commitment to Soldiers and Families throughout his tenure. His professionalism and genuine care for the formation strengthened the unit and laid a solid foundation for continued success.

First Sergeant Alex Stembridge served as the First Sergeant of the 1160th Transportation Company in Rome, GA. 1SG Stembridge graduated from Southwest High School (Macon, GA) and enlisted in the Army National Guard in April of 2004 as a Motor Transport Operator (88M). 1SG Stembridge’s assignments include: A Co. 148th BSB. 1230th TC, 230th BSC, 1177th TC, E ESC 878 EN BN, and the 1160th Transportation Company. 1SG Stembridge's deployments include: JTF-Katrina in 2005 with the 148th BSB, Iraq in 2006-2008 with the 1230th TC and 1844th TC Illinois ARNG, Qatar in 2010-2011 with the 1177th TC, and Afghanistan in 2013-2015 with the 1230th TC, where he was attached with Special Operations.

Last week, Soldiers of the 1160th TC conducted the Mass Casualty Decontamination Course (MCDC) as they prepare to take over the DECON mission within the Region IV HRF. The training ensured these Soldiers were prepared to respond to potential domestic CBRN incidents.

In a truck company like the 1160th, the proficency of your maintenance assets will make or break an operation. While 1160th did not deploy to NTC with an organic maintenance section, the mechanics in the HQ section rose to the occasion and delivered everytime.

Thier commitment to thier craft and to the success to the unit highlights thier training and dedication. 1160 TC’s success at NTC 25-09 is built on the hard work and countless hours our internal mechanics, FMS technicians poured into the units vehicles to ensure the unit was prepared for the mission.

Thank you to all the mechanics who had a hand in preparing the unit vehicles for some of the toughest conditions they will ever face.

Your Soldiers have exited “The Box” at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin CA having provided logistical sustainment for a force of almost 6000 personnel for 16 days in the field. Operating as the primary transport unit for the 1297th CSSB (MD ARNG), Soldiers from the 1160th TC completed over 30 missions in the Mojave Desert delivering commodities to sustain the fight. Thier efforts and performance reflect the hard work they have put in since November, and the leadership team could not be prouder of each and every one of them.

Last week, over 30 Soldiers from 1160th TC completed line haul operations, shipping over 30 tractor trailers of equipment to Fort Irwin ahead of NTC Rotation 25-09. Thier hard work and dedication ensured those participating in the rotation have what they need to succeed in “The Box”.
