Did you know that Martha Berry's sister also had a love for gardens? 🏰 🌿

The gardens of Castle Nemi, in Nemi, Italy, are depicted in this image. This castle was purchased by Martha Berry's older sister, Eugenia, after she married Prince Enrico Ruspoli, an Italian prince. Eugenia became a prominent figure in Italian society, and Martha Berry took several trips to visit her older sister in Italy. When she had Oak Hills gardens constructed in 1927 and 1933 by Robert B. Cridland, the Sunken Garden was inspired by some of the gardens Martha Berry saw during her trip.

You can learn more about Princess Eugenia Ruspoli's life, and her impact on the Berry Schools, by visiting The Ruspoli Room gallery at The Martha Berry Museum - on display now!
