I was so honored to receive the Greater Chicago Food Depository Hunger Action Leader Award! Thousands of families in Illinois have lost stable access to adequate nutrition due to the federal changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program in the “One Big Beautiful Bill”.

That's why I championed the FRESH Program, which created a $400 one-time relief assistance payment for eligible Illinoisans who lost SNAP benefits due to the new federal work requirements. We know this ongoing assault to our safety net is not going to stop, and we have to do everything in our power to protect people’s access to food.

I was honored to join the Illinois Association of Hispanic State Employees for their annual training conference, where I was presented with the Leadership Award. This award is in recognition of my commitment to public service and advancing equity within Illinois state government.

I also spoke to attendees during the legislative roundtable, where we discussed the importance of legislative advocacy and sharing their perspectives and experiences. Thank you to IHASE for all you do to advocate for, and assist, Hispanic state employees.

Earlier this summer I met with several of the organizations that received R3 funding in the Will County area. I learned about the incredible work these organizations are doing planning events for youth in our communities and assisting with returning citizens. R3 funding allows them to expand their programming and serve more people, continuing their impact.

The organizations that received R3 funding this round include:
FOCUOS (pictured first)
Give Something Back (pictured second)
G W Buck Boys and Girls Club (pictured third and fourth)
New Day Employment Network
Black Lives Matter Will County

I spoke to Joliet Township Violence Prevention Grant recipients about the importance of regional coordination to stop violence in our communities. Successful, safe, and thriving communities take all of us — all levels of government, non-profit organizations, businesses, and each other — to do the work 💪
