The next 48 hours look stormy across our area. Here are our current thoughts:

There may be multiple waves of storms across our area today. The first wave (largely in the 2 to 7 PM time window) has the highest threat to be severe with damaging to locally destructive winds. While additional storms are expected after 7 PM, coverage of severe intensity (in the form of damaging winds) may be lower compared to earlier in the day.

We are expecting a lull in storms after about midnight tonight.

Tomorrow will feature additional rounds of severe thunderstorms in our area. The period of greatest concern will be during the afternoon and evening (roughly 3 to 9 PM) when intense thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes, damaging hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding may sweep across the area.

Now is the time to get prepared! Ensure you have multiple ways to get warning information and know where to shelter if a Tornado Warning is issued for your area. As always, we'll provide updates as the forecast evolves.

The pattern is heating up! Today, Wednesday, and Thursday will be hot and humid with peak heat index values in the upper 90s to locally 100. This will be the stickiest air of the year so far this season, so be sure to practice heat safety tips (visit https://www.weather.gov/safety/heat)

With heat and humidity comes the threat for severe storms. There will be multiple windows for severe weather starting late tonight and lasting through Thursday. At this point, the highest coverage and intensity of storms are favored on Thursday. This will be a week to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to get warning information.

[11:29 PM CDT Monday 6/8/2026]

We just issued a Flood Advisory (light green shading on the map) parts of southeastern Will, northeastern Kankakee, Lake (IN), and northwestern Porter counties for an area of very heavy rain.

The area of greatest concern is across northern Lake county, particularly near a line from Schererville to Gary, as this area can be prone to flooding with intense rain rates.

Use caution if traveling through the affected areas - do not attempt to drive across flooded roads.
