Memorial Day is for the fallen.
For the heroes who gave everything and never got the chance to come home.
Don’t let their sacrifice be forgotten in the noise of sales, parties, and long weekends.
Because every freedom we enjoy exists because someone was willing to lay down their life for it.
Today we remember.
Today we honor.
Today we say their names. 🇺🇸

Officer (Captain) Jet and Handler Brandon were proud to assist with check-in during the Girls in Aviation event at Lewis University! ✈️👮‍♂️
The Lewis University Police Department is always honored to support events that inspire and empower future generations. Girls in Aviation provided young women with the opportunity to explore careers in aviation, leadership, and STEM-related fields, and we were excited to be part of such a positive and impactful event.

As Saint John Baptist de La Salle said,
“Enter to learn, leave to serve.”

Please join us in welcoming Sergeant Mark Atwood to the Lewis University Police Department!
Sergeant Atwood brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and leadership to our department. We are excited to have him join our team and know he will be a valuable addition not only to the Lewis University Police Department, but also to the entire University community.
As Saint John Baptist de La Salle reminded us:
“Let your conduct be an example to all.”
— Saint John Baptist de La Salle
“And whoever wants to be first among you must be your servant.”
— Matthew 20:27
Welcome to Lewis University, Sergeant Atwood! We look forward to the positive impact you will make both on campus and in our community. 💙🛡️

During National Police Week, we recognize that a strong department is built by an entire team — not just one person.
It takes every member of the department working together to keep operations running efficiently, support one another, and help keep our community safe. From officers and command staff to dispatchers, administrative staff, training personnel, and student workers— every role matters, and every contribution makes a difference.
Thank you to our entire department for your dedication, teamwork, and commitment to serving others each and every day. Together, we are stronger. 💙

Graduation is rapidly approaching and we would like to take the time to recognize our outstanding Senior Campus Safety Assistant, America Lopez-Buendia!

She will be graduating with her Bachelor of Art with a DOUBLE major in Paralegal Studies and Criminal Justice. Here are some words of wisdom she leaves with us:

"Becoming a first-generation college graduate represents more than a mere personal achievement—it reflects the opportunities my parents forfeited as they worked endlessly to ensure my overall stability and place in life. Every decision I make carries the weight of my parents’ sacrifices."

What song reminds you of your time at Lewis?
"The song “thank u, next” reminds me of my experience at Lewis as it mirrors growth, reflection, and moving forward with purpose."

What is something you learned about yourself while attending Lewis/working with LUPD?
"Forming the academic and professional relationships at Lewis University/LUPD have made me realize that often times my greatest impediment is my self-doubt. Once I move past that, the path forward becomes much clearer."

Now that you are graduating, what piece of advice would you give looking back to yourself as a freshman?
"I would remind myself that while the fear of falling behind is often overwhelming, growth must not be measured against others; comparison deprives you of your own becoming."

We are so proud of your accomplishments America! You will go far and thank you for letting LUPD be a small part of your life journey!
