Romney Fire Company Awarded Two FEMA AFG Grants Totaling Over $900,000
Romney Fire Company and Fire Chief GT Parsons are proud to announce the award of two FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG), totaling $901,800 in funding to enhance firefighter safety and operational readiness.
The first award is a regional grant in partnership with Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Company and Fountain Volunteer Fire Company in the amount of $850,800. This funding will provide all-new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) units and Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) packs for the participating departments. After an extensive evaluation process, 3M Scott SCBA systems were selected to ensure the highest level of safety, reliability, and performance for our firefighters.
The second grant, awarded directly to Romney Fire Company, totals $51,000 and will fund the replacement of all existing 5-inch supply hose and 1 ¾-inch attack hose. Mercedes Textiles fire hose was selected following careful review to ensure durability and dependability on the fireground.
The total departmental cost share for both grants is five percent, amounting to $42,942.87 divided amongst the departments on the grant. We are incredibly grateful to our community members and supporters whose continued generosity makes it possible for us to meet these matching fund requirements.
These critical upgrades will significantly enhance firefighter safety, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen the level of service provided to our community.
