May is National Foster Care Month—a time to acknowledge with gratitude the foster parents, family members, and child welfare professionals who help foster children find permanent and loving homes.

At our annual Foster Parent Appreciation Dinner this month, the May issue of Faith the Magazine was unveiled— showcasing our team & foster parents, and highlighting the many benefits of foster care and adoption.

We are proud to honor Ruth Markson as the DSS Employee of the Month for February. She’s a Child Care Examiner II in the Child Care Eligibility Unit.

Based on nominations, each month DSS honors one exemplary worker as the Employee of the Month.

Ruth recently met with her local legislator, Chad Lennon, who presented her with a proclamation for her achievement.

Congratulations and thank you, Ruth, for all you do for the residents we serve at DSS.

Pizza for lunch. Pizza for dinner. Lines out the door for an hour or more—but all you could feel was the sense of community engagement and heartfelt purpose behind this special fundraiser. 🍕

Blood donations are needed. Be the lifeline. Make a difference. Donate blood today.

🚨 New York Blood Center Declares Blood Emergency 🚨

Severe winter storms, widespread flu, and holiday disruptions have caused donations to drop nearly 40%, leaving our region with less than a two-day supply of blood. Local patients—trauma victims, surgery patients, and those fighting cancer—are at serious risk.

Even a small increase in donors can make a huge difference. Be the lifeline. Donate blood today. Schedule your donation: https://bit.ly/3Z1LjjK

Dozens of DSS workers took advantage of a recent meet & greet opportunity with two special facility dogs: Hamilton, from the Suffolk County Police Department and Niko, from the Suffolk County Fire Rescue and Emergency Services.

The dogs’ handlers answered questions about the dogs’ training, work duties, and home life, while staff spent their lunch break relaxing, laughing, and petting the dogs.

Thanks so much for visiting us—come back soon!) 🐾 🐾 🐾 🐾
