It was an honor for the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department to participate in the Roscoe VFW Memorial Day Parade as we joined our community in remembering and honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We are grateful to everyone who came out to support this meaningful tradition and stand together in remembrance this Memorial Day.

Today, the members of the Harlem Roscoe Fire Department pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than the start of summer — it is a day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance for those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we cherish every day.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day, we encourage our community to take a moment to remember our fallen heroes and the families who carry their legacy forward. From all of us at the Harlem Roscoe Fire Department, we thank those who served, honor those we have lost, and remain committed to serving our community with pride and dedication. 🇺🇸

At Harlem High School, the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department was proud to welcome home the veterans who took part in VetsRoll this past week.

Their journey honored the sacrifices and service of our nation’s heroes, and we are grateful to have been part of welcoming them back home. Thank you to all of the veterans, volunteers, and supporters who make this incredible experience possible.

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department reminds everyone that it’s also National Safe Boating Week. Whether you’re spending time on the river, lake, or traveling on the road, safety should always come first.

Core boating safety tips include:

• Wear a properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket. Drowning remains the leading cause of recreational boating fatalities.
• Boat sober. Operating a vessel while impaired is illegal and extremely dangerous.
• File a float plan and let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to return.
• Check weather and water conditions before and during your trip.
• Carry emergency communication equipment and a stocked emergency kit onboard.

At Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department, we would much rather see everyone out enjoying the hopefully beautiful weather than meeting because of an accident. Whether it’s on the river or on the road, please make smart choices, look out for one another, and have a safe Memorial Day weekend.

Every Friday, the members of the Harlem-Roscoe Fire Department proudly wear red shirts as a symbol of support and respect for our nation’s troops. This tradition serves as a visible reminder that we stand behind the brave men and women who serve our country at home and abroad.

By wearing red each Friday, we honor the sacrifices made by our military members and their families, while also showing our community that their service is never forgotten. It is a small gesture with a powerful meaning — a tradition rooted in gratitude, patriotism, and unwavering support for those who protect our freedoms.
