#COVID19NC Update for Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020: As of this morning, NC has had 317,495 positive cases of #COVID19, including 3,288 new cases reported since yesterday. There are 1,501 people currently hospitalized. Sadly, there have been 4,852 deaths in NC. More info at covid19.ncdhhs.gov/dashboard.

➡️ North Carolina’s COVID-19 numbers remain too high. As numbers worsen here and across the country, we need North Carolinians to treat this virus like the deadly threat it still is. We know that months of acting carefully has made people tired. And the caution and care of the early days of this pandemic have given way to more relaxed behavior. But we cannot let weariness win. If our metrics keep moving in the wrong direction, the state could impose additional orders, either at a local or statewide level.

➡️ Governor Roy Cooper and NCDHHS Secretary Mandy Cohen announced a new COVID-19 County Alert System to give North Carolinians an easy way to see how their county is doing and know what they can do to protect their family and neighbors and slow the spread of this virus.

The system pinpoints counties with the highest levels of viral spread and offer specific recommendations to bring numbers down. It will help give local leaders another tool to understand how their county is faring and to make decisions about actions to slow viral spread. Red and orange counties need to do even more to slow the spread of COVID-19 in their communities, on top of the already existing Executive Orders and guidance from NCDHHS.

Learn more on how it works and what steps you can take to protect yourself and your loved ones: governor.nc.gov/news/north-carolina-introduces-covid-19-county-alert-system

➡️ No matter the color of your county there are critical actions we can all take to slow the spread, starting with everyone wearing a mask whenever leaving home. But it doesn’t stop there. Everyone has a responsibility – each North Carolinian, each business and each public official in every county.

➡️ With promising news on vaccines, we need to do what we’ve done throughout this pandemic – work together to avoid the threatening situations that many other states are facing. We can do this, NC, because time and again since our first case in March, North Carolinians have done exactly that.

➡️ Let’s stick with what we know works. Wear a mask, wait 6 feet apart, wash your hands. Be smart about your Thanksgiving plans, and get creative with options to celebrate safely with fewer people. Your community may benefit or suffer from your decisions. Remember – this pandemic won’t last forever, but our strength and resilience will.
