In 1908, Reddin Aston "Addie" Honeycutt (my Great, Great Grandfather) built this vision that today is known as "The Addie Shack". He was a man you might say was "in the spirit" most of the time. To some in it's day, it was originally known as the "Pout'n House". Reason being, when he was what you might call "lit" Grandma Daulcie just wouldn't let him in. But, think'n ahead of Grandma, he equipped
it with a fireplace! Although it would get cozy, one fateful night ole Addie was feel'n a little too good and feel asleep allowing the fire to go dim as he froze to his death right there in his favorite place. To preserve this piece of family history, I began my mission. Dismantling the original chimney (brick by brick) and having it moved to it's current location in 1999, I began the slow but delicate process with the help of good friends and the support of my wife, to preserve it to like new condition. With the exception of removing the original German siding and replacing it with the log siding that brings life to it today, the exterior is pretty much original right down to the cool breeze on the front porch and the reconstructing of the chimney with the original brick. Although the interior has many upgrades, it remains as original in appearance as it did in "the olden days''. After a lot of sweat and much cooperation from members of the family, We were able to rebuild the interior with material that Addie used to originally construct his "man cave" or remove material out of old homes he built for one of his children that were falling but salvageable. The more than a Century old Unpainted tongue and grooved boards wrap the walls, floors and cabinetry while the cozy fire creates nothing less than a stellar view the now cathedral ceiling. After completion, I was so proud that I just had to give it a name that would give reverence to it's creator. Since his friends Called him "Addie", it just seemed fitting that it be called what is known today as none other than "The Addie Shack"! So, if your in the area please stop on in. There's no invitation need. I'm just looking any excuse to hang out, light the grill and have a few thrills! Chris Matthews
