The Rapid City Fire Department notified several counties that ambulance service outside Rapid City city limits will cease effective Dec. 31, 2026, unless a sustainable funding source is found.

Traffic Incident — Ring Thunder Road

On the afternoon of July 16, 2026, at approximately 5:00 PM, the Mellette County Sheriff's Office responded to a single-vehicle rollover on Ring Thunder Road. Three occupants were involved — two were transported by EMS and one was treated and released at the scene but was later transported to Rosebud IHS. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

We remind all drivers to buckle up, slow down, and stay alert behind the wheel. Seatbelts save lives, and a few seconds of caution can prevent a lifetime of consequences.
