A heat wave will bring hot temperatures to parts of SW Oregon and northern California Sunday through Tuesday. High temperatures of 90-100F with some west side valleys 100-105F and 105-110F in western Siskiyou County will bring levels of HeatRisk to moderate to major levels. Those sensitive to heat or without adequate cooling and/or hydration could experience heat-related illnesses.

𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐬 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭
𝐁𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟑

ROSEBURG, Ore. – Due to increasing temperatures, lower relative humidity levels, and the continued drying of vegetation throughout the Douglas District, fire restrictions are increasing across lands protected by the Douglas Forest Protective Association (DFPA) and lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Roseburg District.

Effective 𝐒𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟑, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟐:𝟎𝟏 𝐚.𝐦., Public Use Restrictions will increase to 𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄 on all private, county, state, and Bureau of Indian Affairs lands within the Douglas District and Roseburg BLM District. In coordination with these restrictions, the BLM Roseburg District will implement Stage 2 Fire Prevention Restrictions on all BLM-administered public lands within the district.

Additionally, effective 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔, 𝐚𝐭 𝟏𝟐:𝟎𝟏 𝐚.𝐦, Industrial Fire Precaution Levels (IFPL) will increase to 𝐈𝐅𝐏𝐋 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝟐 on all lands protected by DFPA, including lands managed by the BLM.

𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐔𝐬𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

Under Moderate Public Use Restrictions, the following activities are only permitted before 1:00 p.m. or after 8:00 p.m.:
• Non-industrial power saw use;
• Cutting, grinding, or welding of metal;
• Cutting, trimming, or mowing dried or cured grass; and
• Operation of power-driven machinery for non-industrial property improvement or development on private lands.

𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝟐 (𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐞 𝟏𝟓)

IFPL Level 2 applies to all lands protected by DFPA within regulated use areas DG-1, DG-2, UA-1, and UA-2, and all forestland within one-eighth mile thereof.
Under IFPL Level 2, the following activities may only operate between 8:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.:

• Power saws (except power saws operating at loading sites);
• Feller-bunchers with rotary head saws;
• Cable yarding;
• Blasting; and
• Welding, cutting, or grinding of metal.

𝐁𝐋𝐌 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝟐 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬

The BLM's Stage 2 Fire Prevention Order is intended to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires on public lands during periods of elevated fire danger. Restrictions include:
• No open fires, including charcoal briquettes, except at designated BLM campgrounds:
o Cavitt Creek Falls Campground
o Eagleview Group Campground
o Susan Creek Campground
o Tyee Campground

• Gas-powered chainsaws may only be operated before 10:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. Battery-powered and electric chainsaws are exempt from these hourly restrictions and may be operated throughout the day. All chainsaw operations require a shovel, fire extinguisher, and a one-hour fire watch following use.

Additional restrictions, exemptions, and temporary area closures may apply under the BLM Fire Prevention Order.

These restrictions are designed to reduce the likelihood of sparks or heat sources igniting dry vegetation during the hottest and driest parts of the day. As fire season conditions continue to evolve, additional restrictions may become necessary.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant while working or recreating outdoors and to stay informed regarding changing fire conditions.

For all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico, the U.S. Drought Monitor showed 46.93 percent of the area in moderate drought or worse, compared with 48.78 percent a week earlier.

Heat begins to build across the PNW late this week into the weekend, with extreme heat from Sunday through Tuesday of next week! Extreme Heat Watches have already been issued from Vancouver, Washington to Salem, Oregon by the NWS with additional heat alerts likely. Temperatures warm into the 80s Friday into Saturday and then the 90s and some 100s from Sunday through Tuesday with overnight lows staying in the 60s. While this won't be a repeat of the 2021 Heat Dome, it will be hot and dangerously hot. Please prepare now to cool your and make sure you keep your pets safe

Whether you are searing burgers or smoking ribs, keeping your family and your home safe is the most important part of the meal. Before you fire up, follow the tips below to keep your summer gatherings oops-free:

➡ Keep it outside: Only use your grill outdoors, at least 3 feet away from your home, deck railings, and tree branches.
➡ Safety first: Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from your grill.
➡ Check for leaks: Before your first use of the year, test your propane hose by applying a light soap and water solution. If you see bubbles, you have a leak.
➡ Safe Disposal: After you are finished grilling, allow the coals to completely cool before disposing of them. Always dispose of used coals in a metal container.

Thank You, Lookingglass Mighty Fine Swine 4-H Club!

Lookingglass Rural Fire District would like to extend our sincere thanks to the members, leaders, and families of the Lookingglass Mighty Fine Swine 4-H Club for their hard work and dedication to our community.

This evening, club members spent their time cleaning up litter along local roadways, helping make Lookingglass a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful place for everyone who lives, works, and travels through our community. Acts of service like this demonstrate the values of responsibility, stewardship, leadership, and community pride that are at the heart of the 4-H program.

We are grateful for the opportunity to assist with traffic control and help provide a safe work environment while these young men and women volunteered their time and effort. Their willingness to roll up their sleeves and give back to their community is something they should be proud of.

Thank you for representing 4-H so well and for making a positive difference in Lookingglass. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and our community is better because of your efforts.

🔥 PRESCRIBED BURN NOTICE – NORTH BANK HABITAT MANAGEMENT AREA

Weather permitting, a 122-acre prescribed burn is planned in the North Bank Habitat Management Area, located approximately 6 miles west of Glide, Oregon, off North Bank Road.

📅 As early as Thursday, June 11
🕚 Ignitions may begin around 11:00 a.m.

This operation is being jointly coordinated by the United States Wildland Fire Service (USWFS) and the Bureau of Land Management, Roseburg District.

⚠️ Visitors should use caution in the area. Increased equipment and personnel traffic is expected, and portions of the local trail system may be temporarily impacted, including:

• West Entrance Parking Lot
• Blacktail Ridge Trail
• Middle Ridge Trail
• Chasm Creek Road
• Thistle Ridge Trail
• North Gate Trail

🌿 Why conduct a prescribed burn?
Prescribed fire is an important land management tool used to:
✔️ Reduce wildfire risk to nearby communities
✔️ Create more fire-resilient landscapes
✔️ Improve the quantity and quality of forage for wildlife
✔️ Reduce invasive species
✔️ Restore and maintain oak woodlands

🌫️ Smoke may be visible from Glide and surrounding areas near North Bank Road. Fire managers will work closely with Oregon's smoke management program to conduct operations during conditions that help minimize smoke impacts to local communities.

Community Information Notice: Wildfire Structure Protection Training – June 13

Residents of the Lookingglass and Winston communities may notice an increased presence of firefighters, fire apparatus, and emergency response vehicles throughout the area on Saturday, June 13, 2026. Personnel from multiple agencies across Oregon will be participating in an Oregon State Fire Marshal (OSFM) Structure Assessment and Preparation Training focused on protecting homes and communities during large wildfire incidents.

As wildfire seasons continue to become longer and more complex throughout Oregon, fire agencies are increasingly preparing for large-scale wildfire incidents known as conflagrations.

What is a Conflagration?

A conflagration occurs when a wildfire or other fire emergency threatens lives, property, and critical infrastructure beyond the capabilities of local resources. Under Oregon's Emergency Conflagration Act, the Governor may authorize the Oregon State Fire Marshal to mobilize firefighters and equipment from across the state to assist affected communities.

During recent wildfire seasons, Oregon has experienced numerous conflagration declarations that required firefighters from dozens of agencies to respond far from their home jurisdictions to help protect communities threatened by wildfire.

What is Structure Protection?
While wildland firefighters focus on containing and suppressing the fire itself, structure protection personnel focus on improving the survivability of homes, businesses, and other buildings threatened by wildfire.

Structure protection operations may include:
Structure triage and survivability assessments
Evaluating defensible space around homes
Removing immediate ignition hazards
Deploying portable sprinkler systems
Installing protective structure wrap
Identifying water supply and access concerns
Determining whether a structure can be safely defended during an active wildfire

Research and real-world wildfire experience have shown that homes with defensible space and proper preparation have a significantly greater chance of surviving a wildfire event.

About the Training
The training will begin with classroom instruction at the Winston-Dillard Fire Station before transitioning to properties in the Lookingglass area for hands-on practical exercises.

Participants will receive instruction in:
-Structure triage and assessment
-Home ignition zone evaluation
-Wildfire structure protection tactics
-Portable sprinkler system deployment
-Structure wrap installation

This training provides firefighters with the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to make rapid decisions during fast-moving wildfire incidents while maximizing the protection of homes and communities.
