Our residency and aftercare programs help pregnant women and women with babies transition from crisis situations to healthy independent living with hope for a better future. Safe Haven Maternity Home, a nonprofit organization under 501(c)(3), was established in 1992 to provide a safe home environment that inspires and provides resources to pregnant young women and those young women with babies who
are in crisis. We offer housing, supervision, nutritious meals; transportation to training, schools, medical and other necessary appointments; assessments, referrals and follow-up with community resources during pregnancy and after; life and job skills training, parenting education, and emotional support. Our experienced staff model and teach daily life skills to these young women and network with community resource agencies to obtain services that allow residents to maintain an independent, healthy lifestyle for themselves and their babies. Upon individual evaluation, residents may stay up to one year after their baby is born while securing safe housing. The home is staffed 24 hours 7 days a week by caring housemothers. Upon individual evaluation, residents may stay up to one year after their baby is born while securing safe housing. Safe Haven’s overall purpose is to ensure residents develop successful independent living and job skills necessary to act as responsible parents and become contributing members in their community. Life and job skills are essential to success. A job skills computer training component is located within the maternity home facility. Under the supervision of a qualified trainer, residents receive instruction in the use of valuable computer skills for use in today’s job market, as well as doing school homework assignments and research for jobs. We currently house eight women and their babies. To date, we have assisted over 500 women in need. Each resident may stay through her pregnancy, delivery and up to six months after childbirth, or longer if necessary. An individual plan is developed to assist each mother with safety and support prior to leaving Safe Haven.
