Douglas Electric Cooperative (DEC) is a private, not-for-profit electric utility owned by the members it serves. DEC's service area covers 2200 square miles in western and northern Douglas County, with small portions in northeast and southeast Coos County and south Lane County. A seven me

mber Board of Directors governing the cooperative is elected by and from its membership; therefore, the members ultimately control the cooperative. The Board meets monthly to set policies and review the operations of DEC. Its directors are elected at the Annual Meeting held each year on the first Saturday in April. Each director serves, without salary, a three year term. Nominations for election to the Board of Directors from each respective district are made by petition signed by 15 or more members who reside in that district and must be filed in DEC's headquarters at least 60 days prior to the Member Meeting. While each member owns the cooperative, no member shall be individually liable or responsible for any debts or liabilities of the cooperative.

Yes, it's AI. No, that's not what I look like.

But one thing in this picture is 100% real:

You own Douglas Electric.

Not Wall Street. Not some distant corporation. People in Elkton, Camas, Lookingglass, Reedsport, Tenmile, Yoncalla, Rice Hill, and on YOUR road.

You.

We are proud of it! We hope you are too! (Caption was created by a real live human!)

Power has been restored, thank you for your patience.

8:45PM - Approximately 300 members are currently without power in the area from east of the Elkton Tunnel on Highway 38 to just outside of Drain.

The outage was caused by a traffic accident involving a vehicle and one of our utility poles.

Emergency responders are on scene, and once the area has been secured and is safe for our crews and those involved in the accident, we will begin restoration efforts as quickly as possible. At this time, we do not have an estimated restoration time.

We appreciate your patience and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

Tell the Governor that public power needs a seat at the table.

Dams on the Columbia and Snake Rivers help keep electricity reliable, affordable, and carbon-free for communities across Oregon. Recent court orders will weaken the system and drive-up costs. These changes shouldn’t move forward without meaningful input from electric cooperatives and the communities they impact. Oregon families, farms, and small businesses should not be left to face higher bills and greater risks of blackouts. Take action now: http://bit.ly/3RM4C0c

📣 Douglas Electric members, your voice matters.

A recent court decision could change how the Columbia and Snake River dams operate, and that could mean higher electric costs and a less reliable grid for families, farms, and businesses across Oregon.

The State of Oregon is also a party in this lawsuit.

Like it or not, if we don’t get this power from the dams, we’ll have to replace it somewhere else, and that “somewhere else” is likely higher-cost power bought on the open market.

These dams have provided affordable, dependable, carbon-free electricity to communities like ours for generations. They matter to rural Oregon.

We’re not asking people to agree on everything. We’re simply asking that the people who actually pay the electric bills get a voice in the conversation.

Our Power. Our Future. Our Voice.

Let us be part of the “dam” decisions.

Please take 30 seconds to write Governor Kotek and let your voice be heard.

This Memorial Day, we remember the men and women who gave their lives for this country, including many from right here in Douglas County.

After American soldier Martin Treptow was killed during World War I, this was found in his diary:

“America must win this war. Therefore I will work. I will save. I will sacrifice. I will endure. I will fight cheerfully and do my utmost, as if the issue of the whole struggle depended on me alone.”

May we never forget the price paid for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Douglas Electric Cooperative will be closed Monday in honor and remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice. 🇺🇸

We know we’ve still got more work to do. But we’re getting better every single day.

Over the last five years, Douglas Electric has aggressively invested in vegetation management, system maintenance, and reliability improvements across our co-op.

And it’s showing.

⚡ Outages are happening less often.
⚡ When outages do happen, they don’t last nearly as long.
🌲 Tree-related outages have been cut dramatically.
⚡ Reliability across our system continues to improve year after year.

None of this happens overnight. It takes planning, investment, long hours, and a lot of people out in the field doing difficult work in all kinds of conditions.

We’re proud of the progress. We’re thankful for the crews, contractors, and employees making it happen. And we’re grateful to the members who own this co-op and make these investments possible.

We’re not finished. But we are moving in the right direction. Every day. ⚡
