We are celebrating volunteers every day!
Jim Pitman, Peace at Home’s Board Chair has been serving on the Board since 2022. Jim has been an instrumental addition to the Board, providing valuable insight and leadership.

“I have always been a firm believer in service and giving back to the community. I wouldn't be where I am and who I am without the help, guidance, and support from others. All of us need others at some point in our lives and organizations such as Peace at Home help others at critical points in their lives. More than just help, Peace at Homes works to ensure safety and to give people their lives back. In my many years in the field of mental health I have worked with people who have gone through some of the most horrible experiences, and I have seen what one human being can do to another. It is heartbreaking. The opportunity to serve and support an organization that is actively helping serve and support these individuals was something that I immediately wanted to do. When I first met with Peace at Home’s Executive Director, I never questioned whether I wanted to serve on this board or not. It was an opportunity to support work that is so profoundly important; I saw it as an honor. The longer I am with Peace at Home the more sold I am. From the energy and drive of the Executive Director to the dedication and diligence of the staff. Peace at home is an extraordinary organization and one that I am honored to be a part of.”

While this weighs heavy on our heart we want the community to know that Peace at Home and Tasha’s House will be continuing to provide services, programs, and events on The Lotus Pad campus. Peace at Home operates an affordable housing program for young adults 18-24. Reach out if you have questions about the campus, email [email protected]

Today, we are sharing some difficult news with our Douglas County community. 💙 FARA’s Dome Spe Transitional Living Program will be closing effective September 1, and we are deeply grateful for everyone who helped make these programs possible. Please take a moment to read our full statement below as we share more about this difficult decision and our continued commitment to serving youth and families.

Thanks you, Starbucks partners (employees) and The Starbucks Foundation for recognizing how we are making our communities stronger. This grant will fund vital services in Douglas County.
We hope others will match this gift🎁to sustain programs available for survivors of intimate partners violence. Each year, we serve hundreds of families with core services including the 24/7 Hotline, safety planning, emergency shelter, and legal advocacy.

It was a heartwarming open house with over 100 attendees learning more about services offered to young people.

Three nonprofits opened the gate to The Lotus Pad on Wednesday to welcome community members in to see the improvements and intentions behind the campus.

VOLUNTEER HIGHLIGHT
We are grateful for our volunteers. Brandy Stone has been a volunteer with Peace at Home for 1 year. She became a certified advocate and has been a huge help at our main office!

“I was encouraged by my wonderful therapist after mentioning that I wanted to volunteer here. For me, relationship and family violence were an intergenerational and personal constant in my life, and I actually became a client here in my 20s. For the next decade I started studying everything on attachment theories and narcissistic abuse. My motivation in this work is also influenced by being the grandchild of a Native residential boarding school survivor. I am really invested in how the connections between assimilation, power, control, and violence impact us all socially. I returned to school and now plan to work in social services, so volunteering with Peace at Home made perfect sense.
My volunteer experience with Peace at Home has helped me grow spiritually and it has gone by so fast in the last year. My favorite aspect has been the people I get to work with. I’ve also gained professional experience in multiple areas that wouldn’t have been accessible to me otherwise. I have worked answering calls on the crisis line and assisting with community outreach at multiple events throughout the year, like Take Back the Night and the Empower fundraiser. So many people come up and tell us how important the work is to them or how our services changed their lives.
My advice is to keep an open mind and don’t be intimidated or scared! If you’ve been wanting to join a local effort that meaningfully improves our community, this is one of the most impactful places to be right now. Many hands make easy work. If you have a skill, there are creative ways to use it here; if you don’t have a lot of skills yet, this is a great place to learn. There are so many different ways to contribute or to get involved and take some weight off of someone’s shoulders.”

Yesterday, around the country people wore their denim for Denim Day. We are grateful for our community partners who believe survivors. The ODHS team showed their support.

Today, join us at the 2026 Laps of Solidarity event and complete some laps around Sutherlin Community Park with us. Drop by between 4pm-6:30pm.
