Douglas County Public Health is responsible for planning and leadership in assessing the public health needs of Douglas County residents and developing, implementing, and monitoring preventive health programs designed to meet those needs. Core Responsibilities:
Public Health is guided by local, state and national standards for developing and applying disease prevention, environmental health, and h

ealth promotion and disease prevention to protect the health of residents and visitors of Douglas County. Douglas County Public Health is charged by the Oregon Legislature (ORS 431.345) to provide for the following to protect the health of the public:

◾ Control of preventable diseases and conditions. Immunizations, Maternal Child Health Services, Nurse Home Visiting, Family Planning, and Women, Infants, and Children Nutrition Services (WIC)

◾ Environmental Health

◾ Collection & Reporting of Health Statistics

◾Health Information & Referral Services

◾Prevent epidemics and the spread of disease

◾ Protect against environmental hazards

◾ Prevent injuries

◾ Promote and encourages healthy behaviors

◾ Respond to disasters and communities in the recovery phase

◾ Assure the quality and accessibility of health services
