As we pass the halfway mark in February , we would like to take this time to recognize Black History Month. The New Jersey State Policemen's Benevolent Association proudly celebrates the rich history, service, and enduring impact of the many Black law enforcement professionals who have helped shape and strengthen both our profession and the communities we serve.
Their leadership, dedication, and commitment to public service remain a vital part of our collective past and an essential foundation for our future.

It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of Woodbridge Police Officer Michael Tenpenny who tragically passed away last night following a devastating motor vehicle crash.

Officer Tenpenny served our community with unwavering dedication, courage, and heart. His absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, and our hearts are heavy as we hold his family, friends, and fellow officers in our thoughts.

May his service be remembered, and may he rest in peace.

Murphy Signs PBA Mental Health Bill

Governor Murphy today signed legislation proposed by the State PBA to enhance the benefits and privacy for first responders seeking mental health treatment through worker’s compensation.

The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Roy Freiman, Senate Joe Lagana and 19 bipartisan cosponsors, requires an employer to provide up to 12 hours of paid confidential counseling services for work related traumatic incidents. These services are in addition to any other benefits provided to members under their health insurance. The bill also, crucially, allows members to select their own counselors rather than use ones assigned by workers compensation.

Finally the bill provides for confidentiality in communications between members and peer counselors provided through the PBA Peer team. This ensures members have the space to freely discuss their need for mental health treatment without fear of their employer being advised.

“This is a major victory for our members and all first responders so that we can protect their mental and physical health,” State PBA President Pete Andreyev said on the bill signing. “Any officer who feels the weight of the job getting heavier on their shoulders should look to this law and our mental health counseling services as their lifeline.”

We mourn with our brothers and sisters in the NYPD on this horrific night. A HERO officer has lost his life protecting innocent lives in Manhattan tonight. Several people have been killed by the gunman. Pray for the officer’s family, along with the families of all those killed tonight.

NJSPBA PRESIDENT PETER ANDREYEV SLAMS THE IRRESPONSIBLE STATE HEALTH BENEFITS LEADERSHIP

Today, the State Health Benefits Commission received a rate renewal report suggesting an increase of over 36% for local government
employees and over 17% increase for State employees.

These increases are a result of a lack of leadership in the State Health Benefits plan and the inability of the State to control healthcare costs. The unholy alliance between the carriers and the hospital networks has
caused this spike in costs, no matter what Treasury says.

We will take all the necessary legal action to protect our members from these drastic increases. Not only should we be angry, the people of New Jersey should be infuriated. We all deserve better.

For the month of July we are doing a weekly PBA dine in where a portion of the proceeds go to to our civic association which funds our high school scholarships, sponsorships and events in town where we give back to the community.
