Senior Citizen’s Day was a GOOD one! 🎉❤️

Fort Bend Seniors was out at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds celebrating with some of our favorite people from across the county.

There was BINGO, music from DJ Willie T, dancing, lunch, door prizes, goody bags, vendors, and plenty of laughs along the way. 💃🕺🎶

But our favorite part? Seeing so many of the seniors from our centers out there having a great time, catching up with friends, and enjoying the day together.

Hunger never takes a holiday.

Rich Branek, our Field Operations Manager, helps lead the team behind the scenes to make sure meals are packed, routes are covered, and deliveries make it to the seniors who depend on them.

Whether we’re facing a natural disaster, a pandemic, or just another challenging day, the need doesn’t stop. And neither do we.

Together, our team works to make sure our seniors have a nutritious meal, a friendly face, and the reassurance that someone is there for them.

For Destinie Ramirez , our Client Care Manager, this mission is personal. Meals on Wheels once served her great-grandparents, giving her a firsthand understanding of the impact these meals can have on a family.

Now, she’s helping carry that same tradition forward and encouraging our generation to raise the standard for how we care for our seniors, so that compassion, dignity, and humanity continue to be passed down.

Because this is more than a meal.

It’s showing someone they are seen. It’s understanding that they may need more than food. And sometimes, that simple act of compassion can change a life, including your own.

Destinie’s message is simple: set the standard, pass it down, and do it with heart.

Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels will be closed Friday, September 25, in observance of Fair Day. All home delivered and senior center clients will have received meals prior the closure. Regular operations resume Monday, September 28.

Young or old, it’s easy to forget that there was a generation before us that helped pave the way for the lives we have today.

And eventually, we all get older.

That’s why it matters to show our kids, our families, and the people around us what it means to nurture, respect, and care for the generation that came before us. It’s not an abstract idea. It’s real life, and one day, it will be our turn.

Shonda Thomas wants people to understand that life gets busy, and we all have moments when we need a little help. But supporting a senior can start with something as simple as communicating with us and finding a way to help.

Because the impact you make isn’t just for that moment. It can stay with a senior long after you’re gone.

A fitting tribute to a legacy of leadership and service.

The Fort Bend County Emergency Operations Center will be renamed in honor of the late Judge Robert “Bob” Hebert on Thursday, September 24, at 10:30 am.

The recognition is especially meaningful because the center itself is part of Judge Hebert’s legacy. Planning for a new Emergency Operations Center began during his tenure as County Judge, replacing an aging, makeshift facility that had served the County for years.

Judge Hebert understood the importance of preparing for the future and ensuring Fort Bend County had the resources needed to protect its residents during emergencies. It is fitting that the facility envisioned during his leadership will now carry his name.

We are proud to see his legacy honored in this meaningful way. Judge Hebert also holds a special place in the history of Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels, where he served as Interim CEO and a member of our Board of Directors.

A well-deserved tribute to a champion for our community whose leadership knew no boundaries. 💙
