How cute is this little guy!?

Baby giraffe Moyo wins hearts with a rare heart-shaped marking on his neck. 🦒❤️

A giraffe calf born at Reid Park Zoo in 2024 quickly became a visitor favorite because of a distinctive heart-shaped marking in his coat. The zoo named him Moyo, a word associated with “heart” in Swahili. His unusual pattern drew attention online while also giving the zoo another opportunity to highlight giraffe care, conservation, and education.

The Perseid meteor shower is about to light up the sky with streaks of different colors.

Its 2026 peak is expected overnight August 12 into August 13.

And this year, conditions are especially good.

The peak happens close to a new moon, meaning very little moonlight will interfere with the view.

Under dark skies, dozens of meteors could be visible every hour.

Some may appear white.

Others can flash yellow, orange, green, blue or even purple.

That is because meteors contain different elements that glow at different wavelengths as they heat up in Earth’s atmosphere.

Sodium can create yellow and orange.

Magnesium can appear blue-green.

Calcium can produce violet tones.

Iron can add yellowish light.

Oxygen and nitrogen in the atmosphere can contribute even more color.

That is why particularly bright Perseid fireballs can sometimes look almost like streaks of rainbow light across the sky.

You do not need a telescope.

Just find the darkest place you can, look up and give your eyes time to adjust.

The best viewing usually comes after midnight and before dawn.

For a few nights in August, Earth will pass through a trail of debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle.

And some of those tiny fragments may turn into the most colorful shooting stars of the year.
