Summer is here, which makes this the perfect time to keep the Roslyn Water District’s “Save 2” program in mind to save an average of 10% on their annual irrigation water usage.

All you have to do is cut back your irrigation usage by 2 minutes per zone. According to irrigation experts, shortening your watering times by 2 minutes will not have any negative effects on your lawn, making this program a win for your wallet and a win for our environment. Be sure to tell your irrigation vendor to remove 2 minutes from each zone.

Are you putting new plants or trees around your property this summer? Put a layer of mulch around their base! Mulch will slow water evaporation and discourage w**d growth.

With irrigation systems now online, the Roslyn Water District would like to remind our residents only water their lawns during the times specified for their village or unincorporated area.

Residents should also be sure to adhere to the Nassau County Odd/Even Lawn Watering Ordinance:

-Homes with odd-numbered addresses water on odd-numbered calendar days

-Homes with even-numbered addresses water on even-numbered calendar days

-No watering between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Roslyn Water District has some exciting infrastructure improvements on the way! We are in the process of installing two new Granular Activated Carbon filters and one Advanced Oxidation Process treatment system at Plant 4 in Roslyn Estates. As the well is taken offline with construction underway, we encourage residents to save water. While there is not expected to be any interruptions in service due to construction, this does put our District at a reduced capacity, making conservation critically important.

The RWD was awarded $4.5 million in grant funding for this project, helping to lessen the impact that it will have on residents’ wallets.

Although its 2025 Smart Controller Requirement is now in effect, the RWD understands that there are residents who have purchased a smart irrigation controller but have not been able to have them installed yet due to time constraints. Residents who fall into this category can fill out the form at the link below to let the RWD know that they have a smart controller on hand and plan to have it installed as soon as they can.

ROSLYN WATER DISTRICT: PLAN TO INSTALL SMART CONTROLLER FORMThe deadline for the Roslyn Water District's Smart Controller Requirement passed on January 1, 2025, which means that all automatic irrigation systems within the RWD must be fitted with a smart irrigation controller. It is the responsibility of all homeowners with automatic irrigation systems to switch to a smart irrigation controller to comply with the RWD’s 2025 smart controller ordinance.

Smart controllers are the best tools for conserving water while also keeping your landscaping healthy. These devices use WiFi to connect to local weather stations to better predict your lawn’s watering needs. Saving water also means saving money, and many users find that the cost of installation is often offset by these savings within a year.

Based on decades of working in the community and the inventory of data we have on installed service lines, the Roslyn Water District is confident that the vast majority of the lead service lines within its service territory are accounted for. With that said, 100 percent confidence is needed, so the District has embarked on an aggressive data collection effort to confirm the materials used for every service line in the District which we do not already have on record. The District will need the assistance of the Roslyn Water District residents to complete this task.

If you believe your home service line is made out of lead or galvanized steel, please fill out the form at the link below.
