Helping Every Child Become a Strong Reader and Writer
Our school-wide focus is writing! Strong writers become strong readers. Families can help by providing opportunities to practice writing, reading, speaking, listening, and fine motor skills at home. Try these simple activities with your child.

Activity 1: Build a Writer's Toolbox
Strong writers need strong hands and fine motor skills. These activities help develop the muscles needed for writing.
Kindergarten - 2nd Grade
• Roll, squeeze, and shape play dough.
• Practice cutting and gluing pictures.
• Draw, color, and paint.
• Open snack bags independently.
• Use clothespins to clip papers together.
• Crawl, climb, and play outside.
3rd - 5th Grade
• Create detailed models using clay, paper, or recycled materials.
• Follow multi-step craft projects that require cutting and assembly.
• Design and build a model such as a playground, pet house, or invention.
• Write directions explaining how the model was built.
• Draw diagrams and label important parts.

¡Nuestro enfoque escolar es la escritura! Los escritores fuertes se convierten en lectores excelentes. Las familias pueden ayudar brindando oportunidades para practicar escritura, lectura, habla, escucha y habilidades motoras finas en casa. Prueba estas actividades sencillas con tu hijo.

Actividad 1: Construye una caja de herramientas para escritores
Los escritores fuertes necesitan manos fuertes y habilidades motoras finas. Estas actividades ayudan a desarrollar los músculos necesarios para escribir.
Kínder - 2º grado
• Enrolla, exprime y moldea la masa de juego.
• Practica cortar y pegar imágenes.
• Dibuja, colorea y pinta.
• Abre las bolsas de snacks independiente.
• Usa pinzas para sujetar los papeles juntos.
• Arrástrate, escalar y jugar afuera.
3º - 5º grado
• Crea modelos detallados usando plastilina, papel o materiales reciclados.
• Sigue proyectos de manualidades de varios pasos que requieran corte y ensamblaje.
• Diseña y construye un modelo como un área de juegos, una casa para mascotas o una invención.
• Escribe instrucciones explicando cómo se construyó el modelo.
• Dibuja diagramas y etiqueta las partes importantes.
