NEWS RELEASE | Roswell Police Department Earns 10th Consecutive CALEA Accreditation🏆
The Roswell Police Department (RPD) has once again been awarded Advanced Accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Marking the department’s 10th consecutive accreditation since 1995, the designation includes the prestigious CALEA Meritorious Award, honoring 30 years of adherence to nationally recognized best practices in modern law enforcement.
Achieving CALEA’s recognized "Gold Standard" is an exhaustive, multi-year process. Maintaining Advanced Accreditation status requires RPD to meet nearly 400 rigorous standards that cover every area of the agency, from administration and operational procedures to field tactics and support services. Compliance is verified through annual web-based audits, internal reviews, and an intensive on-site evaluation, during which assessors conducted 37 interviews with department personnel and community stakeholders. Maintaining that compliance year after year falls to the department's entire workforce.
"Thirty years of continuous CALEA accreditation is a direct testament to the discipline of our officers and professional staff,” said Chief of Police James Conroy. “Written policy is only as meaningful as its daily application, and their commitment on every shift ensures our agency operates at the highest standard for the people of Roswell."
While evaluating the agency’s overall compliance and organizational health, assessors highlighted several key strengths that reflect the quality of RPD’s service:
▪️De-escalation & Oversight: Assessors commended RPD’s emphasis on proactive de-escalation training and close supervisory oversight, noting that uses of force consistently remain below 1% of all citizen contacts.
▪️High-Impact Specialized Enforcement: RPD was recognized for dedicating strategic resources to complex investigations, including multi-jurisdictional human trafficking, as well as major narcotics operations targeting large-scale drug manufacturing and distribution networks across the region.
▪️Community Engagement & Victim Advocacy: RPD was celebrated for building community trust through tailored outreach programs, such as the Hispanic Citizens' Police Academy, and for its victim-centered advocacy initiatives, including specialized spaces designed to support victims during sensitive investigations.
"This gold-standard achievement affirms what those of us in Roswell leadership already know: our police force is truly best in class," said Mayor Mary Robichaux. "I'm thankful for the men and women that serve us every day, and I hope that this CALEA accreditation shows Roswell just how lucky we are to have them."
ROSWELL 911 CENTER ALSO EARNS REACCREDITATION
The Roswell 911 Center, a division of RPD, also earned its third consecutive CALEA Communications Accreditation, a distinction it has held since 2018.
The center also holds a Tri-Accredited Center of Excellence designation from the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch. The designation, held by only a small number of centers worldwide across police, fire and EMS protocols, places the center among the highest-performing emergency dispatch operations in the world. The center's most recent site-based assessment included 13 interviews with center personnel and partner agencies, and found the center in full compliance with all reviewed standards.
These accreditations affirm Roswell's police and communications divisions as regional leaders in 21st Century Policing.
