Notice of Filing for City Election

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that filing for Mayor and two City Council positions will open Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. and close Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

OFFICES TO BE FILLED: One (1) Mayoral position, which serve a two-year term; two (2) Council member positions, which serve a four-year term. All terms begin January 1, 2027.

Affidavits of Candidacy will be available at the Rothsay City Hall, 119 2nd St. SW, during the regular business hours of 9:00 am to 3:00 pm Monday - Thursday, but will be available until 5:00pm on July 28, 2026. You must state which seat or position you are filing for on your Affidavit.

The following criteria must be met for the mayor or council seats.

The candidate:
-must be an eligible voter;
-have no other affidavit on file as a candidate for any other
office;
-is, or will be on assuming office, 21 years of age or more;
-will have maintained residency in the City of Rothsay for no
less than 30 days before the election; and
-must pay the $2.00 filing fee at the time of filing.

There is a risk for severe storms Tuesday evening into early Wednesday morning within portions of eastern North Dakota into northwest and west-central Minnesota. A squall line is expected to move quickly east/northeast thru the area with severe wind gusts 60 to 75 mph or higher possible. Large hail to golf balls and a tornado is also possible mainly as the line is moving thru eastern North Dakota. With this event largely occurring overnight, make sure to have a way to be alerted if a warning is issued for your area, as well as have multiple ways to receive warnings. Also, plan now and know where to go should a warning be issued for your area
