Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day.

National Peace Officers Memorial Day is observed each year on May 15 as part of National Police Week. It was established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy to honor law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and to recognize the sacrifice made by their families, coworkers, and communities.

The Marathon County Sheriff’s Office pauses to honor and remember the peace officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the Marathon County community. Their service, courage, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We pay special recognition to:

Officer Edward Baerwald
Wausau Police Department
EOW: August 15, 1928

Officer John DeLisle
Schofield Police Department
EOW: November 12, 1928

Agent Arthur T. Fadness
WI Dept. of Revenue, Alcohol & To***co Enforcement
EOW: August 31, 1958

Patrolman John E. Braun
Schofield Police Department
EOW: December 24, 1979

Deputy Jeffrey Neil Sheets
Marathon County Sheriff’s Department
EOW: May 21, 1994

Detective Jason Thomas Weiland
Everest Metropolitan Police Department
EOW: March 22, 2017

We will always honor the fallen while we continue to support the survivors. Today and every day, we remember their sacrifice and stand with the families, friends, coworkers, and communities who carry their memory forward.
