Little River Regional Park

Little River Regional Park The park has over 7 miles of hiking trails, 7 miles of single track mountain bike trails, picnic shelters, playground, and restroom facilities.

The Little River is one of the cleanest in the state, with vibrant aquatic habitat for otter, beaver, rare freshwater mussels and many other species. Sycamores, river birches and other riparian trees edge it's banks. From their branches, indigenous and migratory birds, among them tanagers, warblers, whippoorwills and woodpeckers nest, feed fly and sing. The Little River Regional Park and Natural A

rea is a cooperative project between Durham and Orange Counties, funded equally by both, with major assistance from the Eno River Association, Triangle Land Conservancy, NC Clean Water Management Trust Fund, NC Parks and Recreation Trust Fund, and the Land and Water Conservation Fund. The park is managed by Orange County.

Is it time for the Great Backyard Bird Count yet? Yes, yes it is! Every February, citizen scientists around the world identify and count as many birds as they can find. The results are used by scientists to better understand global bird populations and migration patterns.

Grab your binoculars and field guides between February 13-16, 2026 and start counting birds. For more information on how to participate, check out this link: https://www.birdcount.org/participate/.

Update: Things are still pretty frozen out at the park. We're working to get the driveway and walkways cleared of the ice but we remain closed until conditions are safe for the public. Thanks.

Fingers crossed, we’re shooting for a 10am opening but more likely noon to let the temps warm up enough to start thawing some of the ice on the pathways. We appreciate your patience and stay safe folks.

All Orange County Government administrative offices and facilities will have a delayed opening at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28, due to road conditions.
Emergency Services and the Sheriff’s Office report that road conditions have continued to improve today due to the above-freezing temperatures and sunshine. However, temperatures will be below freezing overnight, so roads may re-freeze or still be icy in the morning.
The following Orange County facilities will delay opening until 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 28:
• All Orange County Government administrative offices
• Seymour Senior Center and Passmore Senior Center
• Solid Waste and Recycling Centers
• All Orange County Parks
• Both Orange County Library locations
