ROUND LAKE PARK, IL – The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District (GRLFPD) and Round Lake Park Police Department responded to a structure fire at a mobile home on Bengson Court in Round Lake Park at approximately 10:00 a.m. today, April 7, 2026.

Emergency Response
Crews from Round Lake and neighboring departments responded and found smoke coming from the home’s doorway and from beneath the structure. Firefighters began an aggressive interior attack but encountered unsafe conditions as the fire burned through the floor.

During the operation, crews experienced intermittent water supply issues from the hydrants, which were unable to support the fire attack. A Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Box Alarm was requested, bringing water tenders to the scene. This provided crews with a secondary water source, enabling them to successfully complete firefighting operations.

Resident Impact and Displacement
All residents were able to evacuate the building safely. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported. Due to significant fire and smoke damage, the residents have been displaced. Local authorities and support organizations, including the American Red Cross, are working to support those displaced residents.

Investigation
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by GRLFPD investigators.

The GRLFPD extends its thanks to the numerous fire departments from throughout Lake and McHenry counties that provided mutual aid at the scene and assisted with additional emergency calls.

🚨 Carbon Monoxide Safety Reminder 🚨

As firefighters, we respond to carbon monoxide (CO) calls every year—and many times, families are exposed long before they even realize something is wrong.

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless gas that can make you sick quickly and without warning.

⚠️ What You Need to Know:
• CO detectors are designed to alarm at specific levels over time
• Lower levels of CO can still cause symptoms like:
• Headaches
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Confusion
• Children, older adults, and pets may be affected sooner

✅ Safety Tips:

✔ Install CO detectors on every level of your home and near sleeping areas
✔ Test your detectors monthly
✔ Replace units every 5–7 years (check manufacturer date)
✔ Never ignore symptoms—even if your alarm hasn’t activated
✔ Have your furnace and fuel-burning appliances inspected annually

🔍 Consider Upgrading Your Protection:

Some newer CO detectors include digital displays that show real-time CO levels. These can provide earlier awareness of changing conditions in your home.

🚨 If your CO alarm activates:
• Get everyone outside immediately
• Call 911
• Do NOT re-enter until cleared by the fire department

A working CO detector can save your life—but awareness is just as important.

Don’t rely on a beep alone. Know the signs. Stay safe.
