Winners of the 2022 Eagle Ridge Holiday Decorating Contest

As we wrap up 2022, it’s merry and bright throughout Eagle Ridge as homes throughout the neighborhood have been decorated for the holidays. Whether it’s with lights, beloved cartoon characters, or of a spiritual nature, we all can enjoy the spirit of the holidays!

This year’s Grand Prize winner for the 3rd Annual Eagle Ridge Holiday Decorating Contest is 3522 and 3524 Cheyenne Street. In addition to their joint decorations, Christie O. hosts an annual holiday scavenger hunt for the neighborhood children, which is enjoyed by young and old alike!

Next Best winners are 1365 Bull Horn Loop, 1422 Bull Horn Loop, and 3620 Short Horn Lane. In all, more than a dozen homes received votes by the judges. Please take an evening to drive around and visit all of the homes. And who knows? Maybe next year, yours will be the winning house!

The judges and community appreciate your efforts to brighten the holidays with your decorations!

The Eagle Ridge Yard of the Month Committee has selected the Jessica Hill residence located at 3703 Eagles Nest Street as the winner for August 2022. She has used a water conservation style landscaping design that is PERFECT for the weather we are currently experiencing, HOT AND DRY!! With the demand for water increasing due to the growth in residential and commercial development, this is a type of landscaping use that should be considered when upgrading or installing new yards. This yard is a great example of how beautiful this type of yard can look. My pictures don’t do it justice so please take a minute and drive by slowly or stop and look it over. It really is well done. You might even want to check out a book from their “take a book or leave a book” cabinet at the front sidewalk. Nice addition to the neighborhood.

Chloe and Chris of 900 Terra Street on being named the June 2022 Yard of the Month. Chris has filled his yard in a variety of greenery with a touch of color from a range of flowers. Thank you Chloe and Chris for your hard work in beautifying our neighborhood!

Volunteer! Yard of the Month Judges Needed (June-October 2022)
Eagle Ridge's Yard of the Month (YOM) program, which runs from June to October, is getting warmed up for another year and we're looking for judges. It’s a fun job that requires very little time and a chance to meet new neighbors. Plus, your own yard can be considered! As a volunteer, you will spend approximately one hour each month touring the yards in our neighborhood and one-hour meeting with the other YOM volunteers (in person or virtually) to discuss and vote on the winner for the month. ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS NEEDED! With recent changes to state legislation, the Eagle Ridge Owners Association has only one member on the Architectural Control Committee (ACC) and we need more to serve our neighborhood wisely and equitably.

Committee members only serve a few hours per month depending on the number of reviews requested. All requests for home modifications received by the ACC are reviewed based on EROA Bylaws, which are available on Eagle Ridge TownSq under Documents > ERH.GOV.xx.20131231.AmendmentofRulesandRegulations.pdf.

2nd ANNUAL EAGLE RIDGE WINTER HOLIDAY DECORATING CONTEST! If you are in the holiday spirit and love to have a festive yard, please show us your best holiday lighting on the evenings of December 13-14, 2021, to be considered the best holiday lights in Eagle Ridge. A group of judges will award the Grand Prize winner $150 and three Next Best winners $75 each. Signs for each winning house will be placed in the yards from December 15, 2021, through January 3, 2022. Eligible houses must be a part of the Eagle Ridge Owners Association (EROA).

CONGRATUILATIONS!!! I presented the award today to Sherman and Janice Prim of 3722 Bird House Drive, Round Rock. Folks, I tell you it's worth a drive by just to see the front lawn! Newly laid this spring Zoysia grass is now the most lush green lawn I believe I've ever seen!! Sherman spent many hours preparing his yard for the sod by clearing the St. Augustine grass and leveling the turf. He said it was worth it but doesn't think he would undertake it again.
Janice's share of the landscaping adds the color that makes it so eye popping. I call it the wow factor. The little islands of plantings that are scattered about the yard puts color into the green Zoysia lawn. Very nice. I have a thing for little figurines and absolutely loved the frogs she has cleverly hidden in her plantings. She told me a lady from the neighborhood said yesterday, "I'll bet you win Yard of the Month " and the committee agreed!! The couple won the award in 2018 and certainly have done a great job of maintaining their yard. Congratulations and Thank you for making Eagle Ridge a beautiful place to live.

Congratulations to Roger and Paula Hall for being selected as July 2021 Yard of the Month's recipients! Their residence is located in the newest area of Eagle Ridges Owners Association at 3732 Ram's Horn Way.
The pictures I have posted of their backyard tell it all. Paula is the gardener in the family but as they so kindly walked me around Roger knew names of the plants and would add little comments about Paula's work so it was obvious to me that it was still a team effort. The willow tree in the back yard with the bell shaped blossoms was my favorite. It blooms all summer and had a very pleasant scent. The walkway picture with the carpet of Bermuda grass lined with greenery on both sides is something right out of the movies. I could easily see someone getting down on their knee in that area and no, not to tie their shoe, ha! I've asked Paula to provide a little more detail about her plantings for those of us that would like to add something to our own landscaping. She described her plants and her reasons for using them where she did and I thought a short tutorial by her might be useful to some amateurs like myself. I will add that on a later post.
Thank you Roger and Paula for inviting me into your home and taking time to show me around and also for the very pleasant chat we had. It was a special morning for me. Also for making our community beautiful.
