Over the weekend, the Round Rock Fire Department lost one of our own. Fire Driver Zach French served this community alongside the men and women of RRFD for nearly 19 years, and his loss is being felt throughout our department and the public safety community.

We are grateful for the support shown by neighboring agencies, our fellow employees, hospital staff and the community during this difficult time. Many community members may have noticed neighboring agencies assisting with emergency response coverage or gatherings of our firefighters over the past several days. These acts of support allowed our firefighters the opportunity to be together and support one another, and we are deeply appreciative of everyone who made that possible.

Out of respect for the family, we will not be sharing additional details at this time. We ask that you keep Zach’s family, friends and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers.

Beautiful Central Texas weather can change quickly this time of year. After a nice break following last night’s rain, additional rounds of showers and storms are possible tonight through the weekend.

Heavy rainfall could lead to isolated flash flooding, especially in low-water crossings and flood-prone areas. As of the writing of this post, a Flood Watch is in effect from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Monday.

If you encounter water over the roadway, remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown. Never drive through flooded streets or barricades.

Now that’s fire 🔥🔥 Construction on Fire Station No. 10 is making fast progress with completion anticipated later this year. The station is located at 4380 E. Old Settlers Boulevard and will serve Round Rock's rapidly growing northeast side.

The project is one of three new stations approved as part of the May 2023 bond package where $44 million was authorized to fund significant public safety investments, including new fire stations, improvements to public safety facilities and other infrastructure supporting long-term emergency response needs.

One of our firefighters recently completed an intensive Swiftwater Boat Operator qualification at Rock Island State Park in Tennessee.

This course prepares responders to operate in fast-moving water environments as part of both the State Water Team and FEMA Urban Search & Rescue (US&R). Training included day and night skill evaluations such as victim rescues, advanced boat maneuvers, assisting stranded vessels and even scenarios focused on rescuing fellow crew members.

We’re proud to have team members trained and ready to respond when it matters most, in a variety of conditions.

Two of Round Rock Fire Department's own were deployed on recent wildfires in the Panhandle.
Round Rock Firefighters Joe Fritzinger and Steven Puckett deployed through the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System (TIFMAS) to assist with response efforts on the Lavender Fire, which burned 18,423 acres, and the Korn Fire, which reached 275 acres.
We are proud to support wildfire operations alongside crews from across the state. 🤝

During Winter Storm Fern, Round Rock Fire Department’s Crisis Response Unit (CRU) has been out in the community every day, around the clock, helping residents navigate urgent needs caused by winter conditions. The team has handled 28 calls for service during this time, including mental health-related calls, emergency warming needs and assisting Fire and EMS with complex incidents.

In severe weather, CRU helps connect people to safe shelter and short-term resources, and when needed, links families to ongoing case management—all while protecting client privacy. Thank you to the CRU team and all of our responders for their steady work throughout this event!
