Despite rainfall received on Friday and Sunday, Robeson County remains under drought conditions, with ground and vegetation still extremely dry.

As a result, the burn ban issued by the Robeson County Fire Marshal’s Office and the N.C. Forest Service remains in effect until further notice.

All open burning—including leaves, brush, and other debris—is strictly prohibited. Current conditions present a high risk for rapidly spreading wildfires that can endanger lives, property, and natural resources.

Residents are strongly urged to comply with the burn ban and take extra precautions to prevent accidental fires. Violations may result in fines and penalties.

Rowland Police Department Urges Residents to Prepare for Significant Winter Storm

The Rowland Police Department is urging residents to prepare now as a winter storm is anticipated to bring multiple inches of snowfall to the area. Due to the expected severity of the storm, residents are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel.

Reducing the number of vehicles on the road will help improve safety and allow emergency responders to operate more effectively. However, residents should be aware that emergency response times may be significantly delayed due to hazardous conditions.

The Rowland Police Department encourages residents to take the following precautions:

Ensure an adequate supply of food, water, and essential medications

Prepare for potential power outages

Confirm backup power is available for any critical medical equipment

“We always hope for the best but plan for the worst,” officials stated. “Preparation now can help reduce risk and ensure the safety of our community.”

In the event of an emergency, residents should not hesitate to dial 911.

“The Rowland Law Enforcement Association and Rowland Police Department hosted a special shop with a cop event. This occasion was sponsored by Walmart’s Spark Good Grant Program! Partnering with Walmart has become a vital part of our ability to serve families that are less fortunate and have basic needs that seem out of reach. This grant allowed us to provide four big families with household items and clothing along with an additional 30+ children with coats, jackets, socks, gloves, sanitary wipes and other cleaning supplies. Thank You Walmart for choosing our community to serve!”
