The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our area. This means that a combination of strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation has created "extreme fire behavior" conditions.

Under these conditions, any spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving, uncontrollable wildfire. To keep our community and our first responders safe, the Independence Fire Department is strictly discouraging all outdoor burning until this warning is lifted.

What to avoid:
❌ Brush or leaf piles
❌ Recreational campfires or fire pits
❌ Burning trash or barrels
❌ Discarding ci******es in grass or mulch
How you can help:
Report any sightings of smoke or unattended fires immediately by calling 911.

Ensure all trailer chains are secured and not dragging (sparks on the road can ignite roadside grass).

Postpone any outdoor work that involves grinding or welding near dry grass.

A huge thank you to all of the people who came out and had breakfast with us and to the team for all the hard work that went into preparing the event.

It was a great turnout and is great to see everyone come out from the community and surrounding to support the department.
We would like to congratulate Wendy S. on having her ticket drawn in the 50/50 raffle today. We reached out to her and in turn she selflessly donated her winnings back to the department!

Unseasonably mild temperatures, worsening drought conditions and breezy winds will lead to an elevated fire risk, perhaps some critical risk, across the area Monday through Wednesday. Any outdoor burning should be avoided, and use extra caution if using heavy equipment and discarding ci******es.
