Building Respect, Pride & Patriotism Through Flag Etiquette!
Learning extends beyond the classroom as Person High School JROTC Cadets are taking their leadership and citizenship skills into our schools!

Under the leadership of Command Sergeant Major S. Roark, PHS JROTC Cadets recently led Flag Etiquette Training for students at Oak Lane Elementary and Southern Middle School.๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ

This hands-on training provides students with an opportunity to learn the proper respect, care, and handling of the American flag while developing a deeper understanding of what the flag represents to our nation and its people.

Students learned about important concepts of flag etiquette, including:
- Proper ways to display the American flag
- How to properly fold and handle the flag
- Raising and lowering the flag
Proper positioning of the flag when displayed with other flags
- Respectful procedures during the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem
- Proper procedures for retiring a worn or damaged flag

A special THANK YOU to Command Sergeant Major S. Roark and the Person High School JROTC Cadets for sharing their knowledge, serving as mentors, and helping our younger students understand the importance of honoring our nation's flag. ๐ŸŽ–๏ธ
Leadership. Service. Citizenship. Respect.

That's JROTC in action! ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐ŸŒŸ We love seeing great things happening at Carolina Community Academy!

CCA recently launched its first free, three-week summer camp, created in response to feedback from CCA families and with support from students at the UNC School of Education.

Weโ€™re proud to see this vision come to life and provide students with opportunities for learning, enrichment, and connection beyond the traditional school year. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š

Check out the UNC School of Educationโ€™s story to learn more about how the summer camp came together!

Since its launch in 2022, Carolina Community Academy, an innovative K-2 lab school in Roxboro, North Carolina, has brought together UNC-Chapel Hill, Person County Schools, a range of Carolina schools [โ€ฆ]

๐Ÿ From Farm to Jar: Learning the Art of Preserving! ๐ŸŒฑ
Thereโ€™s nothing quite like learning by doing! Students in Northern Middle School's Agriculture classes recently got to experience the full process of making pear preservesโ€”from the farm all the way to the table! ๐Ÿ

This hands-on experience directly connects to Ag Curriculum Standard 1.0: Understand the Fundamentals of Preserving Food, while also giving students the opportunity to learn a valuable skill that has been passed down through generations.

The process started with Mr. Whitfield picking fresh pears from his family farm and bringing them to class. From there, students rolled up their sleeves and got to workโ€”washing, peeling, and cutting the pears, then adding the necessary ingredients to prepare them for the canning process. ๐Ÿซ™

And, of course, the BEST part came todayโ€”taste testing the finished pear preserves! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ

From farm โžก๏ธ classroom โžก๏ธ jar โžก๏ธ taste test, students experienced firsthand how preserves are made while developing skills that were once common in everyday life but are becoming less familiar to younger generations.

A HUGE thank you to Mr. Whitfield for the excitement, passion, and engagement he brings to his Agriculture classes! His commitment to providing authentic, hands-on learning experiences helps students connect what they learn in the classroom to real-world skills and traditions. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ‘

This is CTE in action - learning skills, preserving traditions, and creating experiences students will remember!

๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’™ More than football. Itโ€™s about community.

Before Friday nightโ€™s game, some of our Person High School football players spent time with our youngest learners at Earl Bradsher Preschool.

The players jumped right in, playing with students, helping with lunch, reading books, and even lending a hand with learning activities. Most importantly, they took the time to connect, laugh, and build relationships with our preschoolers.

These are the moments that remind us that being a Rocket is about more than what happens on the field. Itโ€™s about showing up, giving back, and being a positive role model for the next generation. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš€

Weโ€™re proud of our Rockets for making a difference both on and off the field!

We are so grateful for their generous donation of bottled water for our Person County Schools staff!
