Vance County Detention Center escapees Michael Miles and Lishawn Knott were captured without incident at approximately 12:20 am, June 9, 2026, at a home on Old Farm School Road in Asheville, North Carolina.

Leads generated by the investigative team during the joint Vance County Sheriff's Office, FBI Raleigh-Durham Safe Streets Task Force, SBI, and Henderson PD investigation led to their capture in Buncombe County, NC

The investigation into their escape on June 3, 2026, and their movements afterwards are still under investigation.

First court appearance information is not yet available.

SAFE RECOVERY OF MISSING ELDERLY MALE

The Person County Sheriff’s Office is grateful to report a positive outcome following a Search and Recovery operation involving a missing elderly male.

After an extensive search effort involving deputies, Search and Recovery personnel, EMS, fire personnel, and community partners, the individual was located in a wooded ravine behind his residence. He was found disoriented and in need of immediate medical attention.

Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by first responders on scene. Their quick actions, professionalism, and teamwork were critical in ensuring the best possible outcome.

This successful recovery highlights the importance of strong partnerships during emergencies. We would like to thank the members of CEFFO Fire Department, EMS personnel, Search and Recovery teams, and all other community partners who responded and worked together throughout this incident. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment to serving others played a vital role in bringing this situation to a safe conclusion.

The Person County Sheriff's Office is proud to work alongside agencies and organizations that consistently put the safety and well-being of our citizens first. When our community comes together, lives are saved.

We are thankful for everyone involved and wish the individual a full and speedy recovery. 💙🚓🚑🚒

Today, Greg’s Groceries brought together law enforcement, first responders, community organizations, businesses, and volunteers from across the area for a powerful day of service at Walmart in Roxboro.

Representatives from the Person County Sheriff’s Office, Roxboro Police Department, North Carolina State Highway Patrol, local fire departments, Attorney General Jeff Jackson, Walmart, and many other community partners worked side by side packing food boxes that will help support families and individuals in need throughout our communities.

Greg’s Groceries continues to make a tremendous impact by helping fight food insecurity and connecting communities through service and compassion. Today’s event was a true example of what can be accomplished when people come together with a shared mission of helping others.

We are grateful to Greg’s Groceries for allowing us to be part of such an incredible effort and thankful to everyone who volunteered their time today to support this important cause.

Memorial Day Closure Notice

In observance of Memorial Day, the Person County Sheriff’s Administrative Offices will be closed on Monday, May 25, 2026.

While our administrative offices will be closed, emergency services and law enforcement operations will remain fully operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Deputies, detention staff, and communications personnel will continue serving and protecting our community without interruption.

For emergencies, please call 9-1-1.

As we honor Memorial Day, we remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

🚨 Community Alert: Vehicle Break-Ins and Stolen Vehicles

The Person County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a series of vehicle break-ins and stolen vehicles that occurred overnight in the southern part of Person County and within the City of Roxboro.

As a result of this investigation, several individuals are now in custody.

If you live in the affected areas, we encourage you to check your vehicles and property. If you discover that your vehicle was entered or you have surveillance footage that may assist investigators, please contact the Person County Sheriff’s Office at (336) 597-0500.

We appreciate the community’s assistance and vigilance as this investigation continues.
